I have a Joe Rocket jacket with a liner that is 4X and it fits me well. I have no complaints about it. But I would like to also get a mesh jacket. They only seem to go to 3X and most of them are not even close. I don't want to order one because the size is not the same between the different manufacturers. My legs are not that long just my torso. Because of my job I rent allot of cars, but I can't fit in any that has a sun roof. Most of the time when I drive i'm just looking through the top part of the windshield. On older cars this would be in the shaded "blue" part of the windshield.

So does anyone know of a brand and size of a mesh jacket that may fit me?

Thanks, David In Fletcher NC

I have one of these in 2xl. I like it. I haven't tested its safety yet. They go up to 5xl.

Actually, I guess I have this one.

These folks below have several 4X choices. (I have had good results ordering from them over the years.)

I think I will try the Leatherup site. That is a hard price to beat.

Make sure you double check the ACTUAL inch around the chest size. Not all X's are equal.

It is a good price. Mine has held up pretty well, I wear it a lot. But like I say, I don't know how they hold up sliding down the road. The sizes are pretty accurate. I could wear an XL, but I like a little room.

Leather-up - I would also add you should read any of the reviews on the Leather-up jacket in question as well.

I picked up a mesh Xlement myself. My faithful Joe Rocket outgrew me and I handed it up to my son. The quality is not really comparable to say a JR jacket but then neither is the price. My sleeves were a tad shorter in length and the internal lining seems a bit frail but I've yet to really put in some miles with it. The protective armor also seems a bit of a sloppy fit within their pockets.

Just my $.02, YMMV

Side note: I'll defer to Meathhead for any and all actual sliding test results.

Another way to go... but no guarantees.

Ride over to any bike parts/gear sellers and/or metric bike dealers within reasonable distance, and look for any closeouts.  It's my experience they have more XS and XXL+ than any other sizes on the closeout rack.  (Sometimes in too-wild colors though.)  I have gotten lucky with boots, gloves, and jackets this way (though I've looked and found nothing more times than something).

I just got a new front tire mounted at a big local dealer, and lucked into a brand new First Gear Mesh Tex in silver (light color for hot weather), with liner, in an XL.... which is a bit large, but better than my old medium mesh.... stretched so tight on my belly it actually becomes a playable drum.   Grin

Or save some gas and  make their parts countermen earn their wages and call around and ask if they have any closeouts in big sizes.

This is also my go to store if I will order anything new (unless I find it cheaper locally).  If you read the terms on their website, they probably have the most user friendly return policy in the business.  They also have a section discussing actual fit, for each product they sell.

I got this for $100 even (and tax), instead of $180 and shipping.  And it comes in 4XXXX in all colors (and no higher charges for big sizes either).

One other thing.  Most mesh comes with good arm and shoulder armor.  To make my old medium fit (and more comfortable), I took out all removable armor.  It's still way better than having a fall in only a Tshirt.  My new XL may keep all it's armor, as it is a comfortable fit (and the armor may actually help with airflow, holding the jacket off your body).  But if you find a jacket that is just a bit snug (esp though the shoulders and chest), removing the armor may make it fit fine.  Mine did (before I grew my drum).

I travel allot so I have been in allot of motorcycle shops east of the Mississippi to look around. I did try on a 4X Firstgear mesh jacket down in Daytona about a year ago. It was just too short. I bought my Joe Rocket from a shop in NH. I just hate to order a mesh jacket and then it not fit. It not only has to go around my fat belly it also has to fit the length of my torso. Smiley I'm just an odd shape. 6'2" at 350lb with short legs and long torso.

Thanks, David in Fletcher NC.
