Hi all, I have been active on this board in the past and have taken a rest for awhile as I have had some competing interests over the past few years. I continue to ride and enjoy the Valkyrie and she will always have a home in the stable as my forever bike but last year I bought a KLR from a co-worker on the cheap to use for hitting the dirt roads and fly fishing outings. I enjoyed getting back in the dirt a great deal and traded her in as I stepped up to a 2012 BMW R1200GSA this summer to do a couple "adventure" bucket trips with. My bucket list items involve catching a brook trout in Labrador and then after that to catch a salmon in Alaska. Trip one was just completed and I posted a trip report on a local flyfishing site. It is a long story but I did add lots of pictures to try and keep the reader interested. I put a link to the report on the New England board for some of my riding buddies there and a member suggested that I post it over here as others may be interested or enjoy it as well. So here it is in all it's glory...enjoy. http://www.maineflyfish.com/forums/index.php?/topic/30359-grampa-caught-a-brook-trout-in-labrador-my-2-wheeled-labrador-adventure/&page=1Spoiler alert, I have my 1st ever git off at speed (60mph) in 45yrs on 2 wheels. Walk it off and make it another 1,600 miles home with duck tape and bungie cords. Sixguns (Rob)

What did your brookie measure and weigh out at? Ha...I didn't pay for trophy water access. There are some pretty strict guidelines on non-residents, 400 meters up or down any water that crosses a road. I would catch approx. 30 trout in 20 minutes at each spot I stopped at but they were only 4-12" native little gems with beautiful colors.

Thoroughly enjoyed your ride report. One of the best ! Thanks for taking the time to do it. When you get nearer to your Alaska trip and want any advice or tips. Don't hesitate to ask. Grew up there and have done the Alcan and Cassiar many times. Thanks again, great write up.

Thanks to Rob, I took the trip with you to places I will probably never get to see. Thanks for taking me along and thanks for sharing your experience.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Got to read every word of your travelogue and truly enjoyed your descriptive, emotional, and spiritual tale of a fantastic journey in search of the Labrador brookies. You made it there and back. Hoorah! Your inventive, resilient spring back from your crash is commendable. Thank you for giving us all an insight as to what is up there in the big land; it's spaciousness, waters, and the people who welcomed you on your journey. You, sir, are a voyageur! Take care and when you roll again...spin us the yarn.

I took a lobster run back in '11. Rode the Cabot trail but declined Meat Cove as I was on a wing. From AZ it took 28 days. Had a great time.

Wow...some trip, and some Ride Report...very entertaining to read from start to finish. A big flyfisherman myself, I often travel throughout BC, WA, ID, MT, WY with my 4 PC. strapped to the trunk of my Interstate. Many times I think about an adventure tour bike for a different kind of touring, taking me further into more interesting fishing spots. Our Eastern brothers and sisters in Newfoundland/Labrador are surely a special type of people, as you experienced...you're bang on with your assessment that we need more of these types of folks in our societies these days. Glad you made it home safe and were able to complete the ride with some help along the way, a lot of determination and ingenuity on your part, and a little inspiration from Red Green , Thanks for posting this

Great write up, really enjoyed reading about your adventures. That was definitely a dream ride worthy of a bucket list do over, not sure I will be able to touch this type of adventurous motorcycle trip, but, it will be one that I will think of often and try to live up to. So, I have to ask if you were able to enjoy (filling your belly) any of the beautiful creatures you caught? OR Did the law require catch and release? Thanks for posting. Ride safe! Bill

The law up there allowed a very generous catch and keep limit of 12 brook trout per day, I simply chose not to eat any.

I won't say that I read every word and not many of the other posters comments but most of yours. I felt like I was there swatting black flies with you. Very good job of narrating the pictures and telling the story. My luck the guy that took your wheel to get the tire fixed would have had a bike like mine with a dented front wheel.
