Interesting Oss,
I read in the article..."police ticketing", anyone received a ticket for having car tire? I'm not worried about getting a ticket, just curious.

Great article. A lot of information. And no comment section for the "Die a flaming death" segment. I am curious about where someone got a ticket for a car tire on a motorcycle.

Ticketed for a car tire on a motorcycle
I just emailed the author and asked the same thing

I read through the entire article.  It's an interesting mix of bullshit and good information.

Anyone know of someone who went to the darkside due to blowing out a motorcycle tire when he overloaded the bike?

This is not the first time i have heard that Willow. I don't know if it was on here but i remember reading that exact same situation somewhere before. Since i am darkside am i going to be excluded from attending Inzane?  Grin I have not heard that myth though but those goldwing clubs are weird about their safety precautions, so i wouldn't put anything past them.

LOL!  If we excluded darksiders from InZane our attendance numbers would be WAY down.   Wink

Gavin,
I'm a gwrra member since '97. No rule against car tire. I see many car tires at GW events. The rider education division does try to discourage it, just as they work to ENCOURAGE (not require) riders to wear protective riding apparel (again no rule, except in rider course training). I believe it should be incumbent upon any rider organization to want and encourage their members to ride safely....and that comes from providing information and training. But the final call to use that information/training is left to the individual.

I know of too many goldwing clubs that require these things. And i feel the requirement is wrong. Some clubs just go too far with it. Not a club i would want to be associated with. Plus you and your spouse/co rider have to wear matching outfits.   crazy2

In 15 on the way to Spearfish and while at Spearfish and on the way back from DesMoine Ross and I and others ran a Lot of Rain. I've related before how in the rain on fairly new E-3s scarin the kaka outin this old guy. Long story medium length long as I'm still able to ride my rear tire of choice continues to be and Will remain D/S. Not JUST economics but I like the idea of more meat on the contact patch. Long runs at speed with a passenger or loaded for a trip with or W/O my trailer the D/S tires Always run cooler. And here in Missouri and elsewhere I have yet to be eliminated from a ride cuz of my tire choice. Just as a puredeeassguess-if VRCC asked dark siders to Not attend I bet we'd see a drop in registrations on the order of 60% or more. But That IS a P D A G!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

On the way back from Spearfish I had to take an E3 when the Bridgestone Exedra took a couple of holes from road hazard on the way thru DesMoines going west.

I am NOT a fan of this tire, it has zero traction on tar snakes, but I was not a big fan of the Toyo Proxes T1 except that it did save my a$$ a few times in the rain and actually handled the pea gravel on a road that was so bad I hear Joe and the group made a u-turn  (I was with Smoak and Froggy cant remember which IZ it was)

Anyways if BigBF comes to my house after the Columbus weekend rides I will change it out for the taxi tire otherwise I will run it to the wear bars.  Any car tire is no fun in the deep ruts around the nyc roads
Fortunately up in Westchester we dont have no stinkin ruts but in the Bronx  yowza, Its another reason to ride the beater police bike to work like I did today

Hey Ozz, I know what your talking about. I was up in Da Bronx a few years ago from FL with a few friends. We went to the Italian Feast of Ferogosto in September. I run a Double Darkside and on our way out of Da Bronx, it started to rain and we were heading out to LI. That Cross Bronx is still the worst road in America, I thought the BQE was bad. I was literally making unwanted lane changes hitting and trying to avoid potholes. But as far as rain ridding and braking, and longevity, u cant beat a Darkside.

I started going darkside about 05 on my 02 Valk and put about 130000 miles on it. In 2013 I changed to a mc Avon tire because I got one for free, makes sense right?  Well about four months later I went down after losing traction in a 20 mph corner with some frost on the road due to the temp. an in the shadow of a mountain. I road straight of the road into a ditch. I had no control for steering and no braking in front or rear, had to go into the ditch. I will never know if I could have used the rear brake to slow but with the mc tires I had no chance. Haven't ridden since, I'm doing a complete cleanup and service/ repair of a 75 Wing now an would like to go darkside but don't think it will work due to clearance.

"...a Gold Wing with heavy passengers weighs as much as a 1976 Civic
and has a performance envelope that is considerably greater."
2funny I like that!

Ran The Dragon this afternoon leavin' everything vaguely resemblin' a "power cruiser" in the dust.
(Even one nice ST1300, but he jus' couldn't ride Cool)
