$2.66 here.  This is legitimate,  but usually if a mouse farts our prices go up.

1.27 per litre (that's 4.80 / US gal) here in my neighborhood... at least another 0.12-0.15 closer to metro Vancouver. Same thing... always a uniformed spike just before a long weekend, but they're also predicting a further increase in light of the unfortunate events down south. Glad I only have 6 carbs... Cool

Anyone living in the Northeast and heating their home with oil would do well to fill their tanks now.
I feel that the "gouge" is coming all the way until spring for any type of petroleum product. That one in particular brings me not very pleasant memories of my parents trying to balance the budget in the middle of New England winters when the price got jacked up by double digit percentage points.

Gasoline is gonna spike around Thanksgiving...ouch. Sad

Here in the Dallas area prices have jumped to $2.36 or so (That's up about $0.36) in the last few days, and this might be a self-fulfilling prophecy but gas stations are quickly running out of fuel.

(If this is caused by a legitimate shortage or by people rushing out and gassing up because they fear a shortage? Could be either, or a little of both.)

It was on the news yesterday that one of the largest refineries in the country was shut down because of the storm.

Speaking of fuel oil - propane (what we cook on and is my aux heat)  will probably do the same hike.

AND... you can probably count on this spilling over to electric rates.

Duke Energy never misses an opportunity to raise rates.

Well that can't be good. Just tried to fill up my Valk and saw this guy outside of QT demanding everyone just "Walk Away" and leave him all the gasoline... I think he needs a throat lozenge too, his voice was really hoarse...

I understand that some refineries are off-line.  But those refineries don't supply the entire country, so why are prices rising everywhere?

Aaaaaaand, why are they allowed to raise the price of the stock they already have?  The age old question.

When I worked stocking supermarket shelves in the 80's, there was a law that said that the items already on the shelf couldn't be marked up when an item's price went up.  Only the new stock could reflect the higher price and we were supposed to pull the older stock to the front of the shelf and place the new stock behind.  Of course the store made us change prices anyway as customers would never know the difference and nobody ever complained.  This was the time of "price guns" that stuck little paper price tags to the item.  The old sticker would come off easily from can, bottles, etc with a plastic scraper, harder on paper and plastic wrapped things.  Good ole' A&P on Kissena Blvd.

Basic laws of supply and demand... Demand goes up, supply goes down, price goes up to equalize.

A week ago gas was around $2 a gallon here in North Texas. This was taken this morning at a station near me:

$8.029

Although there are now some reports that this is a malfunctioning sign, but there are confirmed reports in the $4 range, from the stations that still have gas. Most don't right now, and the ones that do have cars lined up.

During the September 11 attacks many folks in our area panicked and started buying gasoline. Two of the area stations immediately raised their prices to 4 times the prices they had previously been at. Interestingly enough this prompted even more people to purchase fuel until they both ran out. I believe that since then the state of Indiana has passed laws prohibiting price gouging during times of emergencies.

Gary Casey's is a handi mart chain around here in Missouri and other Midwestern states. Seen the price(s) of fuel go up and then the tanker show up 2 days later with yet anudder price increase. And lest we fergitted this be Labor Day weekend comin up so lets screw folks not even affected by the refinery shut down(s).  cooldude And then they'll shift to "winter blends" with anudder price increase followed by cut backs in gasoline production-nudder price increase-to shift to heating oil production for which the oil companies will happily bend you over the hood for.  Evil And the sad part is-they-oil companies-KNOW they have a captive market. 4 way intersection 4 gas stations All within a penny or 2 of each other. One of the upper level executives gits a hot new young girlfriend or boyfriend-well said young hottie needs an apartment new clothes new ride-maybe I are stretchin this a bit-BUT I have yet to find a suitable replacement for my dino fuel needs. AND if they develop an engine that runs on water-water will jump up to 3 dollars a gallon. RIDE SAFE.

I know price gouging is against the law in NC.

Good for me -  2 VW diesels capable of 40+ MPG, my Valk (which is only half full), and an '88 Acura Integra capable of 33 MPG .

And speaking of propane prices - got home from grocery shopping to find they had filled our tank - at $3.44 / gallon (75 gallons) .  That was our entire usage from last year's fillup + some misc fees.

Good thing we don't need any additional refineries any where else around the country.

Ten cents in 24 hrs? C'mon O2S, that's not even worth hollerin' about. Up here in the land of Solo 1, it went up from 2.29 to 2.55 overnight. You Southern boys have it pretty soft when it comes to gas prices. Roll Eyes

about 20 cents up per gallon here in WI the past 2-3 days.

my local gas station keeps a close eye on market prices since he will not loose a penny.  He jacked it up late today to 2.499 vs. most others still 2.399,  a measly 10 cent jump in one day.  NOthing though am sure to what is happening in TX and those southern states.
