Bleed Front Brakes

I have read a few threads and the Clymer Manual regarding bleeding the  brake lines on my I/S. All I managed to do is confuse myself. If I didn't disconnect any of the rear brakes lines I don't have to bleed the back lines right? I took the front forks off for service (don't ask) so all I should have to do is bleed the front right?

I hate asking something so simple but I am tired and may have had a beer.

As long as nobody topped off the fluid you'll be fine.

You shouldn't have to disconnect any brake lines to remove the forks.  Why would you be having to bleed the brakes because of removing the forks?

If you just removed the calipers and did so without opening or removing the lines going to them, there should be no need to bleed them. Essentially, if you didn't open the lines then you haven't introduced any air into them. The calipers only have to be dismounted to remove the forks, they don't have to be disconnected.

I see Chris beat me by a couple minutes with the same analogy.  :cooldude:

Had to remove the forks and trees for additional repair. Got a bleeder kit and things work great now. Thanks

For future reference and the point we were trying to make is that all you had to do was dismount the calipers from the forks and leave the hydraulic lines intact. No mess, no bleeding.

Thanks for that Chrisj CMA....but I also had a frozen caliper piston so I had to remove the caliper for service. Otherwise, I would never disconnect the caliper from the brake line....but for those who do have to disconnect, I HIGHLY recommitted buying vacuum brake bleeder kit. The best thirty dollars I have ever spent.
