The changing track of Irma had us worried for a while, like it
was going to head straight here. We also were preparing for
our friends from Charleston to bug out with their horses and
come here. Finally it didn't go near Charleston and its track
was way west of here.

But it still raged on Monday evening through early Tuesday
morning, caused a big mess, blew down a bunch of trees, took
out the power. Some "leaners" too big for me to deal with, too
near the house and buildings.

So much for my shade tree mechanic days...

I was real impressed when they started shoving logs into this machine...

Here's what it looks like now... they've taken three easier leaners and
cleared out a bunch of what needs to go before they can take this
one. It is leaning on the shed the red Valkyrie was in, over where
the tractor was and over the building beyond way up into an oak
tree. Pictures don't do some things justice, it looks like a little pole
in this picture, but is really a giant heavy lever arm all mashed up
into the core of my little compound...

The tree guys seem to be hard working and safety focused, I can't wait to
see how they move the tree off the buildings...

Wow, that's what I was worried about.  Trees falling. But, we only had 20 mph winds at the house here.  Hope all turns out good

Sorry to hear about your "shop" being blown down.

I had two huge pecan trees uproot and fall over during Harvey, but am really fortunate they fell at such an angle they missed both my shop and storage building.
Although I'm sad I lost them but realize it could've been much worse.
Absolutely nothing compared to Houston or Florida right now.

Me too... I love that plum tree... in the spring it is filled
with blossoms and a hundred different kinds of bees.

Me and the dog hang out there, those are her basketballs.
If you look close, you can see her Kong(tm) in the crotch
of the downed tree...

The tree guys put in another long day yesterday. After more clearing out
and a great job of cleaning up as they went, they finally pulled
the problem tree back vertical and over towards where they had cleared
out... here they have the rope set and are moving around in the
bucket double checking that everything is ready for the pull...

There was this much stuff left that they didn't chip up, they just hauled
away...

Now that the industrial stage of the cleanup is done, it is back to just me and
my electric chainsaw  Wink

It used to be that you walked down a path through the woods to our house,
now we could pave it and have a four lane highway... they'll be back in a few
days to grind some of the stumps... I wish they could have pushed them up,
but the water runs along one side of that line of trees and the electric down
the other. We'll just grind away the part you see and forget about the part under
ground...
