My best friend lives on St John. He went through Irma with a near direct hit. The island is without power or water in town. No gas station till power comes back. I got a text from him today. He said power will be back in his area of the island after the new year. A little sooner in town (Cruz Bay). St Thomas airport might be open now but not a couple of days ago. No ferry service till Monday. His house and 2 businesses survived but many of his friends lost everything. Many hunkered down in a shelter and returned to a slab and splinters where a house use to be. Many residents are having house guests for the new homeless. The Westin is putting employees in rooms due to lost homes. My friend has propane house cooking and a BBQ grill but no way to get more till supplies arrive. The lost tourism means little income for months. I've offered $$$ which he didn't turn down but he'll let me know when to send help. However you were affected, be glad for your rapid recovery.
