OK everyone I have a question I have a 98 Valkyrie I just bought a really nice 99 Vilkyrie Interstate that is just loaded with chrome it has almost 5K worth of accessories well I totaled it out about a week after I bought it. I hit something on the HWY and it ripped the cross member off of the frame that the kick stand bolts to well my Insurance totaled it out. I kept the bike so they gave me $4800 I have not found out if I can just fix it and get it insured again in TX. So my question is can I take all of the goodes off of the Interstate and bolt it all back on to the 98 I guess I'm asking if the frames are the same. My Wife is Freaking out saying she is afraid to ride it even if I get it welded back up, she is afraid that there may be something else broke that I can't see.  I know it will be a lot of work to strip them both down to the frame and change everything but I have done it with the 1200 Wings a few times. My 98 only has 11K miles on it so that would be better the Interstate has 55K miles. I just hate to tear them both down then find out the frames are different.  :crazy2: thanks for any info guys

Thus rambling question appears to have no ending. If you like the lower mileage engine, then the rest is simple bolt up except the faring and instruments. Forget about just adding the IS faring to a standard

A couple of options.  1.  Transfer cosmetic parts from the I/S to the Standard.  Like ChrisJ said, you cant move the fairing or pods over.  The frames are somewhat different.  The tank will transfer over but you will have to install a block off plate where the fuel gauge sender installs or install an aftermarket fuel gauge with a positive ground.  2.  Have someone look at your I/S and determine how bad the damage is and if it can be repaired.  If not, buy another I/S frame and transfer everything to it then get that frame titled.

Sorry guys, but I don't recall there being any problem with transferring frames. They are all the same (except the VIN sticker/number). It is what is bolted up to it that makes them different.

You have a functioning 98 Valk (model?) and a written off IS? I went through this when I wrecked my IS back in 2010. If all you have damaged is the frame, nothing else broken, and that is the cross member, there is a fix for it, and it's been posted. Fix the IS, and continue driving it.

Hopefully someone posts the link to the fix.

Found it!

Seems it was BigBF who posted and did the job. Check with him for a price.

I looked earlier this year, and where they used to not give titles with bike frames that have been parted out, I've seen them with titles for as little as a few 100's $. If I didn't need a whole new front end at the time, I would have bought a new frame for $1500 and moved all the parts over.

Std/Tourer use a solid rear motor mount and the I/S uses a rubber isolated version...but there's no issue moving parts around with either scheme. As Gordon points out, frames are identical.

This is one of the things which makes the Valkyrie so cool: You can basically build one like you want, using Honda OEM and Hondaline accessory parts.

No rubber mounts on the IS, I totaled mine a few years ago, and swapped every thing over to a standard including engine and electronics.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you're in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

I think from reports from "back in the day" that the Interstate has additional gussets in the frame for added frame strengthening/stiffening. Anybody else remember if that was the case? :cooldude:

Interesting. As I recall, that commentary originated from Honda and made its way into one of the motorcycle magazines of the day.

/Heads off to the 'fiche...

ETA:

Frames and engine blocks appear identical with regards to attachment points (2000 MY). If I can find the article I'll post it - but in short, one of the rags mentioned that the I/S used an isolation setup at one of the mounts while the others didn't. (I think I have every article on the Valkyrie saved.)

Looking at both on the 'fiche now.

2000 GL1500CT frame P/N is 50100-MZ0-000 while the 2000 GL1500CF frame P/N is 50100-MBY-000. From the pictorial, they appear identical with regards to gusseting and cross-member layout.
