Had a bad Avon Frt tire side wall bulge is common found out. Contacted Avon. warranty guy Mark says they dont handle tires there to take it to local dealer. Local dealer dont sell Avon because of to many problems but can get me one as afavor for my business. They want me to pay 30. to ship tire to distributor to look at. Want me to pay for a new Avon replace 265. plus tax. and fee. over 300. total. And maybe the distributor if they even ship it to them may pay half. Time figure half of all that I can buy a new tire from Jake Wilson. Dennis Kirk, etc. (165.) Is less than them doing the favor. So thanks, I am letting it be know how the Avon warranty works. By having this problem I have found out alot of problems riders have been having with Avon. So if had done some research before buying I wouldnt have had this problem. So i am passing it along also to save others from from what I have gone through.  No more Avons.

I haven't purchased a Avon since I had to jump through those hoops 10 years ago.  Luckily a local shop took delivery of the new tire for me.  Can't remember how I send the old one back, but I must have paid to ship it, hence the boycott of Avon.

you are making me feel better that I had to have E3's (that do not inspire confidence in wet weather or tar snakes) put on the rear after road hazard destroyed my Bridgestone exedra 200 tire,  Its still my favorite rear tire by the way

I never had a whit of trouble with cobra on the rear, sorry to hear about your experience

I had a problem with a set of Shinko's a while back.

The way that Shinko handled the problem really instilled a lot of confidence in me.

They sent me a new set of tires and only asked that I drill holes in the sidewall of the old tires and send them pics.

I have ridden on Avons as well as Dunlops.  I've never had a problem with either.

As you can tell by the way the story is presented, the OP did not buy the Avon so the warranty is not an issue.  The warranty is only valid for the original buyer, thus anything Avon would do is above and beyond.

This rant was already posted on the Tech board.

I know its not great to have a tire fail, But as you did not buy the tire (you mentioned on the other thread it came on the bike you purchased) you have no warranty.. its tough but not unusual for non transferable warranties.... miss treatment of tires  could have happened with the previous bike owner (low pressure, big pot holes etc will destroy the best tires at times)

But some still get limited success if they deal with a good tire agent who deals in those tires....going a dealer that doesn't sell Avon tires means there is little benefit to his supplier to go out of his way to help out as he wont sell more Avon tires to the local dealer so I am not surprised you didn't get a lot of joy

If you had a dealer that sells Avon he would have had more clout with the suppliers, if he had also sold you tires in the past he would have also put the extra effort in

I had a problem with a set of Shinko's a while back.

The way that Shinko handled the problem really instilled a lot of confidence in me.

They sent me a new set of tires and only asked that I drill holes in the sidewall of the old tires and send them pics.

Same here my new Shinko SE890 Journey rear tire kept loosing 3-5 psi every 2-3 weeks even when new installed at local cycle shop.  Sprayed with soapy water and found 3 places along the rim on one side that has 3 very, very tiny bubbles coming out from the bead, but only on one side.  Even after 1 year of use,  they sent me free of charge a new Shinko SE890 Journey.  All they did was tell me this year that when you decide to take it off,  to have shop or me take pics of the 3 places it leaked around the rim both on my rim and the old shinko tire for any defects and send them pics back is all to determine if bad rim, bad install, or bad tire bead in those 3 areas.

Either way, not much hastle Shinko rep calling their 1-800 number was fine with me sending pics of 1 year old shinko tire with 80% tread left as well as soapy bubble leaks on that one side.

It could very well be bad install if for some reason say the shop guy did not clean the rim fully and left particles of dirt or sand in those 3 spots? or more my guess is there is a very, very tiny defect in the bead of the shinko tire in those 3 spots.  I doubt it is a bad rim, but never know?

I am sticking with Shinko until they prove me otherwise for price paid cannot be beat.  Last as long as  the rest (except car tire) at over 1/3 off the other tires.

Sooooo glad Metz has finally come out with a new tire for the Wing.
Been runnin' 'Stones, & while good they don't stick on the front like the ol' 880's did on the Valky.
(Avons have always been too hard compound for my ridin' style, 'specially in the rain.)

Jus' got me a "triple 8"...Guess we'll see Cool
