Do you happen to have an OEM overflow tank for a 1200 laying around, if so would you be kind enough to take a couple measurements on the capacity. I want to mark the viewing hose on my bike for the "low" side of the capacity and the "full" mark. I forgot to do that before I disposed of the tank. Use any form of measuring you want....cups, ml, ounces....whatever.

John, I will uncover the 1200 and see if I can measure that for you . Might not be till Sunday , as i am on grandson watch today.

No problem, the bike will be down for a few days anyway. Going through the cooling system, will have the radiator boiled and checked out at a local shop, install a new t'stat(again), replace the fan temp sensor and flush the block. I have a temp dial gauge and the fan didn't come as it went past 220....too high. I shorted the plug on the sensor and the fan kicked on so I know the circuitry and the fan are good. While waiting on all those parts to come in, I'll be pulling the starter and servicing it with a rebuild kit I just got. It was dragging a bit so decided to go ahead with the rebuild. While the front is cleared of the radiator, I plan to double check the timing. I was pretty meticulous when installing the belts so I'm guessing there's nothing going on there. As for the overflow measurements, just when you find the time....and the tank.  ;)

John, I had the reservoir empty, the bike on sidestand. IT took 16oz to fill to upper fill line. Tank capacity is 35oz. So I would think they are filling to half and leaving half for expansion. i hope that helps you size and gauge your tank .

John , I also checked an 1100 reservoir . Its shaped a little different . 20oz to upper fill line, again a 35oz tank. So I fell if you use 15-20 oz as full and have another 15oz or so expansion you should be good.

Thanks, that will help me mark the clear tube I have going to the tank. It won't work to mark the tank since it's solid SS(see picture), but I used a clear plastic tube purposely to allow viewing of the coolan level. Thanks again.  :cooldude:

You can see the overflow mounted on the downtube next to the radiator. With the clear plastic feeder tube it works good for checking coolant level in the tank. With that unprotected seatpan it reminds me of my HS days riding a hardtail. First time out with no foam, it was "crunch" time when I went out the driveway. A couple times like that will make Glen Campbell sound like a bass compared to you.  ;D
