Honda unveiled its Riding Assist technology, which leverages Honda's robotics technology to create a self-balancing motorcycle that greatly reduces the possibility of falling over while the motorcycle is at rest.

I see in the 2nd part of the video a 3 point attachment below the tank sticking just off the floor.  I wonder if this is some type of balancing mechanism and as such would have another one on the other side.

I'm conflicted. I honestly think the tech is cool, but, I don't want my bike to be smarter than me.

It is pretty cool. I was thinking if I can train it with voice commands, I'd have so much fun. Since she never leaks, I wouldn't have to worry about her peeing in the neighbor's garden.

It's interesting technology, and I'm sure it will help some folks who have a need for it. Personally one of the reasons I ride a motorcycle is because I like all aspects of riding a motorcycle. I don't think I would want this for the same reason I don't want DCT, it takes away some of the fundamentals of a motorcycle IMO. So long as things stay options however the more the merrier. I just don't want them standard personally.

Really cool technology... helpful to some people,  but  too much tech that most of us DIDN'T ask for.

One concern is - what if I'm tearing up a winding canyon leaning side to side draggin' footpegs and  the system malfunctions and stops letting me lean the bike over all the way?  Or what if it suddenly tried to straighten up in the middle of a turn because it erroneously sensed a tip over?


It sure changes the motorcycle experience.

I've thought about the same thing with this automatic avoidance system in cars.

If a guy is shooting at my windshield, and I decide the best defense is to run him over, will my car stop short just in front of him, letting him finish me off at close range?

I'm pretty sure this bike can't override manual input. These gyros are there to help keep the bike from falling over at low speed. They aren't strong enough to keep the bike upright if you're pushing it to lean.

I saw a demo on youtube about a one wheeled cycle that had similar gyroscopic anti-drop tech, but the rider could control it just fine, leaning into corners and all.
