And other news people who don't mention the shooters name or show their picture on air.  I hope the "No Notoriety" movement spreads.  Body become state property and be buried in an anonymous grave without publicity. Maybe it will stop some of those lonely sad frustrated angry people who just want their 15 minutes of fame. I know it's a pipe dream.  Too many sources, too much curiosity.

While you have sought to silence most information on this tragedy you have not said really why. Yes I doubt anyone would want to be a copy cat unless very sick and disturbed just like so many that have done heinous acts before. Actually until its done like 911 there seems to be an innocence that has disappeared in knowing that there are people that would do these type of acts. Society has changed from that fateful day and not in a good way. Many of our liberties have disappeared and many have used these circumstances to take away our freedoms under the banner of safety. Most are much more informed and watchful of situations.

Limiting information on this type of event is not possible and not warranted. I think rather than copy cats you have more to worry about from those that seek to destroy the US as we know it. Fear is a powerful tool for change in legislation or for a repeat offense.

So why is it so important to you to stop any reference that you seem a bit off base?

Shocked Hacked Valk has tried to stifle information ?  uglystupid2
The idea of News organizations to deprive these kinds of people the notoriety that they seem to desire is a good idea. But there are just too mant unscrupulous organizations out there willing to give out fame to this deranged people. But it's a good sentiment.

Baldo:

How about the war on drugs just to name one or now our drivers licenses being a national ID, just to name a couple. We have had so many national security policies adopted that it has been the excuse for taking away our freedoms. I can go on but there are to many.

Really, I mean really you are not that uninformed or unaware are you?

Meat you are not worth responding to since you are to far out there and have not seen the other posts he has done and unjustly picked up a wrong point of view. Not to mention I dont like your inability to understand a point of view.

Robert, you are the one who quoted HV and said that about him. I've read his previous posts. They all are well thought out points of view. Yours ? Not so much. But, I will take your admonishing as a point of pride.  Wink

I understand about point of pride, but I didnt say his points were not valid or possibly well thought out, the intensity that they came through with, which speaks more for intent or strength of opinion is the reason I was asking. I wanted to know why he felt so strongly about it, you mistook that question, hence the reality of a lost point or understanding.

So not only did you not understand this but your criticism based on false assumption, I didn't appreciate. I really wanted to have a point of information about someone else possibly opening a discussion with them. You are not the social warrior assigned to protect everyone from the big bad conservatives based on false assumptions that you cannot understand.

Your quote about HV. Seems pretty clear to me. If you wrote it wrong, then make yourself clear. It's amazing how you can turn a little post of him giving credit to Cooper into him taking away our freedoms and stifling info.

I understand why it would be a good thing to not name the assholes in these situations, don't give them the glory they crave.

But on the flip side, because his name was widely disseminated, I was able to do some independent research and find his FAA Pilot's license, and using that I was able to learn that he'd lived ~2 miles from the house I grew up in and that my parents still live in.

I don't mind a private company setting a policy of "We won't name the murderer", I WOULD have a MAJOR problem with a law saying they can't.

There's a major difference between those two stances.

I've said it before; quit calling these guys lone wolves.  Wolves are magnificent creatures (and murderers are not).

These guys are lone cockroaches (or lone murderers, if you're afraid to insult murderers).

Yes, it's a good idea to not sensationalize murderers by giving them too much personalization in the press.  But many times there is an ongoing investigation, and every bit of additional evidence is needed, and many times people come forward with critical information.

Hey, the guy in that video clip is my neighbor.

i just thought it was a good idea. Maybe not.  I participate in several forums about various interests. Some vigorously moderated, some not at all. Motorcycle, sidecars, silver smithing/jewelry, woodworking MG-TD's etc, nothing comes close to the peculiarity of this forum.  This is one whackadoodle place.  crazy2 Smiley

It can still get a bit sporty...just mention the names Obama, Clinton, or  **gasp **  Soros.....

Pelosi and Feinstein come in close seconds....

What Jess says IMHO has validity.  Investgation is ongoing. To mention someone's name may trigger a response from someone that knew the guy and knew he was a whack job. Or, someone may have overheard this guy talking about killing someone?

I don't believe they do it to sensationalise anyone committing a massive crime. I do however disagree with the media's use of certain terminology to explain a situation. I think they over do it most of the time.
