Just looking for GPS recommendations. I have always used my phone, but thinking I might get a dedicated GPS. I have been thinking of getting a decent car GPS and a rain proof cover for it. I've read mixed reviews on some "Motorcycle" GPS units. There are some nice features of a motorcycle GPS like being able to select curvy roads etc..  However these come at a premium and not sure the added expense is really worth it. One thing I do like on my phone is being able to select "avoid highways" for more scenic roads. Just looking for opinions. Thanks. :cooldude:

Hope I'm not violating any forum rules by posting a link to a thread elsewhere.  I have a Triumph Tiger and also spend some time on ADVRider.  There is a pretty good thread that discusses the question of "designated GPS vs smartphone"

The GPS 101 also has a ton of reviews, etc.

I currently use my phone so I can hear music and the map through the IS's stereo.  I like the way I have it mounted and have a charger set up for it, but I always worry about it in the rain.  Also, the point they make about the micro USB point wearing more quickly than dedicated GPS units seems accurate.  Seems like my phone's port has taken some wear.

For some reason, I seem to be one of the few folks using a GPS that likes the Tom Tom Rider II.

It allows me to choose the kind of route I want, is programmable while wearing gloves and is easy to use.   I use to use the Bluetooth capability and will do so again once I get another helmet.    That might be a while though.   Them things are getting expensive....
