Four children from my Church's school were given the honor of presenting a wreath at the Tomb Of the Unknown Soldier today in Washington DC..  They dutifully marched with one of the Honor guards to post the wreath and stood quietly and solemnly when Taps was played.

There are big advantages to parochial schools in what they teach............Respect and Honor.

So many people I know are pulling their kids out of the public school system and home schooling.  When I ask why, the usual response is that teachers aren't teaching. To busy just being buddy buddy or doing nothing at all. Most that are home schooling now say public schools are a joke.

Home schooled kids can't play public school regulated sports and the kid loses social skills and team interactions.  In the past that used to be true and kids did lose when it came to those atributes. But now there are travel teams and home school sports teams just like the public school teams. They also have cheerleading squads. Now nothing is lost in that respect. The kids still get competition and have the same benefits as the school teams.

Parents home schooling also say that bullying and the fear of school shooting is gone when they pull their kids. Some also say that that is some of the reason why they pulled their kids all together. The systems are unsafe and discipline is zilch. To answer your question Jess, what's going on in public schools? After speaking with the parents of home schooled kids, it doesn't sound like much...shame.

Nice post, at least those kids will have an understanding of the sacrifices made by many to make this country what it is today. We went to the tomb of the Unknown soldier last year at rolling thunder. Its a memory that will stay with me a long time.

I will say that in my small po dunk town the schools are still good as are the teacher and they care and a big majority of the students, who I know quite a few of since my son just turned 15, are respectable and upstanding.  We all know that this is not necessarily the norm around the country anymore.  Well maybe it is but we just hear about the ones that are not.   Big city schools have been on the decline our whole lifetime and that is sad.  Throw more money at them and cries to throw more and results still decline because the root problem(s) are never addressed.  Just not PC correct to do that and those that do try to address this are shouted down and labeled by the Phobots with phobia labels.  Good Grief.

A few years ago a gentleman worked for me ( will call him Stewart because that is his name ) .  He had made a dumb mistake and although I was not that upset, I sort of acted like I was, in a good nature d way.  When asking Stu  why he did this his reply was to shrug his shoulders and say I was a government educated kid.  I laughed so hard I could not even be remotely upset and it made the rest of my day.
