Fine, then answer ONE QUESTION....why are your gun death numbers so high vs other developed countries that allow gun ownership?
Because we are one of the few countries that allow and actually promote criminal behavior. We reward young girls that get pregnant and drop out of school,we give them checks every month, free rent and utilities, food stamps and EBT cards, free cable and internet, free Medicaid, ObamaPhones and we give them a raise and more benefits when they get pregnant again. We have generations of babies raising babies, 99% of the time with no family structure in place. The young boys that are running around getting these young girls pregnant pretty much raised themselves with usually no father figure in sight, and usually a dysfunctional mother or a mother that is a child herself. We corral them together into large urban areas and stick them all together to live. We don't punish them or give them consequences when they start dropping out of school. They turn to gangs, they turn to drinking and drugs, they are raised without morals, without scruples, with no sense of right or wrong. They want something, they steal it, or rob someone of the money to get it, they sell drugs for it. When they get caught they are usually slapped on the wrist and turned loose again and again. If they ever do get sent to jail to be "punished", they consider it a right of passage, and we do not punish them in jail at all. In jail they get to hang with their buddies, watch TV, play cards, play games, play basketball, they can hang around and smoke all day, they can get drugs in jail and plot what they will do when they get out. We need to stop rewarding bad behavior, we need to stop paying people to be non-productive citizens, we need to start punishing people when they do wrong, we need to have a death penalty that works, not one that allows serial criminals to die of old age in jail. We don't have a gun problem in this country, we have a criminal problem. Like someone else said earlier, guns are used several million times a year to save a life, but used thousands of times to end one. The legal gun owners in this country own almost 300,000,000 guns, if the legal owners were the problem, you would know it. Well said. This week a thirteen year old was shot after an altercation at his bus stop. If the shooter had no access to a gun the young boy would not have been shot. maybe he would have been stabbed. Its not the tool its the human using it Did you ACTUALLY just say this.....REALLY!!!! What is the chance you die from a stab wound!?!?!?! What is the chance you die from a gun shot!?!?!?!?! If you think the gun doesn't make that situation worse, you are completely ignorant to reality!!! I thought you said you knew what you were talking about. Most guns shot victims (from untrained shooters) don't die. I would even go so far as to say lethality of a small Saturday night special gun that a kid is most likely to take is equal to a kitchen knife. The solution is to improve the human not ban the tool. Better parenting, better social support, better everything. Or, just ban the gun, then the knife, then the baseball bat, then the iron, then the dumbells, then.....get the point

Two options gentlemen...It's one, the other, or a little of both but it's there 100%

nearly 30% of GSW victims die You are a piece of work aren't you. Not sure where you get those figures. 30% is higher than I have read but that is ALL GSW. take out, and look at separately small home protection handguns used by untrained shooters and its bound to be much less. Again I say its a human problem not a tool problem.

It's almost like he is saying " I'm from Canada and I know everything about everything". You don't seem too knowledgeable about guns to me. What constitutes a type of firearm in your opinion? An AR is no different than any other semi auto except for the fact it can have rails to put accessories on and you have been taught this is bad bad bad. You sure don't seem like you fight for your gun rights. If this is your way of fighting, you sure have a weird way of going about it. I'm not sure you eve nknow which end of the gun the bullet comes out of just by reading your comments. Become a citizen of the US and we can discuss this further, until then your opinion just does not matter. sorry if that sounds a little crude but it's just the way it is.

If you think for ONE SECOND that you "support" dead beats more than Canada, you are WRONG! Hell, we give them an extra cheque for each kid they pop out!!!! Numbers don't lie, gun deaths per ca-pita are WAY higher....try again..... You are kidding me, right??? The population of Canada is 36.9 million people, the US has almost 90 million on some sort of public assistance, almost triple the population of your whole country. Plus the vast majority of our welfare folks are crammed into a handful of small metro areas. Get real, Canada does not support more deadbeats.

Most of my adult life I have spent working either out of the back of an ambulance or in a Trauma Center. I have seen more gunshots and stabbings than the Green Giant has Brussel Sprouts. I'll agree that I have seen more people killed by knives than guns. I have seen more people killed by motorcycles, cars, texters, drunks, subway trains, throw whatever tool you want in there. Gun deaths are way down on the list, but more sensationalized.

Phi, Good try.....what is the chance you will die from a gsw....a quick search puts the %between 27 and 30. Same question for stabs...1 to 4 %.....of course more people get stabbed, knives are a quick and easy weapon....

Gentlemen, his mind is made up and neither: facts logic intellect intelligence history etc will be allowed to interfere with his thought process.
His mind cannot be changed no matter what. It is not capable of that.
He is telling you what you should do and you are not responding as he wishes, he believes you are mentally not capable of understand his brilliance and are socially irresponsible.
His guns are ok (mostly because they are his) yours are not, so quit objecting and submit to his wishes, fat chance of that.
He is convinced he is right and you and history are wrong, just be thankful he is not a voting US citizen.
If he were a US citizen he would be a gun owning (or not) progressive repressionist and we do not need any more of those. They really are not much good for anything.
But we would be happy to send ours to him in Canada. i would happily buy the bus ticket for 1.
I have said enough, and I am sure none of it will make him reconsider or re-examine his stance. And I am sure it did not make him any happier to read this, but then that was not the intent.

Oh, you're back, thought you were gone....i get it completely, I find it extremely unnerving to think that so many people can be brain washed into complete ignorance of facts but I get it. What you don't get is this Easy access to firearms causes more violent crimes period. Firearms allow violent crime to be commited MUCH easier and with FAR less involment. Depending on which state you live in, get angry/drunk/unstable, got to the store/black market, buy a gun, com9mit a crime. To deny that basic logic is ignorant. To deny the MOUNTAINS of data to support this is ignorant. To point the finger at every other cause of death in society is ignorant. Enjoy your ignorant lives while the rest of the world looks on and sees innocent people getting mowed down by your rights.....ignorance is bliss

Pete, let me pose the same question to you as I have the others here. Are Americans more violent by nature or does the access to firearms facilitate violent crimes? Your own crime data indicates that your society has this problem, so what is the cause?

What is the cause?? Maybe compare demographics of populations rather than simply parroting the gun thing. Did you have a leader who spent 8 years sowing divisiveness, hating the police, inciting riots, claiming gang members were “like my own kids”, and destroying the majority of what makes your country great. Now, how do you compare?

Or the fact that the US is 10 times more populated than Canada Population density is the primary predictor of crime rate. Not the only one, but it's pretty consistent that more people per square mile equals more crime. Canada has about 36 million people, the US has 335 million people. The land area is pretty close. Of course we have more crime and more crime per capita. It's hard to murder when the next closes person is 10 miles away! Also, take a look at Jamaica. It's an island, obviously. And has strict firearms control. Yet, they have one of the highest, if not the highest, murder rate in the world. As I noted befor firearms are used to prevent crime over 2 million times a year in the US. That is magnitudes greater than the detrimental effects of them. Also, the CDC shows that gsw's are only 18% lethal. The simple fact is it's nearly impossible to quantify lethality of either (way too many variables, and to even say there are concrete numbers is a fools errand). But gunshots are certainly not even close to 30% lethality. So, my final statement is this: Northernvalk, why don't you just stay out of our business? A closed mouth gathers no foot. What happens here isn't your concern, just like what happens in your country isn't my concern. We have our Constitution. It has been upheld in the Heller decision that we (the citizens of the US) have the right, AS INDIVIDUALS, to bear arms.

I think I'll take a couple of my 8 "assult rifles" the 44 revolver and level action 243 bolt action and maybe my xdm 40 with 16 round magazines out tomorrow after work and blow some pumpkins away. Might even get out the 338 laupa for some long range shots. Too bad I'm not in florida or I'd join ya Chris.

Anyway, I think I would like to take my SKS with 20 round mag, and my AR-15 with my 8 30 round Magpuls and unleash some noise out at the range. Why? Because I can! M 29. Really nice gun...for a small caliber revolver. Lol, pulling yer chain

This thread makes me want to go take my S&W .500 magnum (.50 caliber revolver) out to my property and blast some bowling pins. Why, because I still can.

Pete, let me pose the same question to you as I have the others here. Are Americans more violent by nature or does the access to firearms facilitate violent crimes? Your own crime data indicates that your society has this problem, so what is the cause? I have stayed out of this discussion for the most part, although I have read it all. Because I find your "statements" unconvincing and misleading and childishly simplistic. Nothing I would say or do or cite would make any difference, you are not interested in facts or truth your interest is in forcing you view on others by hook or crook using false assumptions and cherry picking statistics. Actually I find much of what you say as an insult to reasonable intelligence. Why them would I engage in any discussion with you or even attempt to answer your question! Just for your own info a factual stat you will not find everywhere- The USA has well over 400,000,000 personal firearms and is the most armed country to ever exist by that number. Sweet dreams. No where in history has banning a tool solved a behavior problem.

Indeed Jamaica ( first honeymoon ) is the highest as much of the Caribbean is and Central America ( including Belize who would have thought that as it is depicted as a garden spot to retire to - not for me), Mexico. The big and bad USA did not even make the worse 25. I expect for many of the undeveloped and then radical Muslim countries it is difficult to get proper statistics. Interesting enough a high density country, Japan is right at the lowest, far better than Canada. Therefore I would think the secret to extremely low murder rates is to bow - All the time. http://list25.com/25-countries-with-the-highest-murder-rates-in-the-world/

Well let's get down to a few of these "points"
Phycho....MOST of my country has NO population at all, our urban areas are close to the same population density as yours and "Like many other industrialized countries, Canada is a very highly urbanized nation. In 2006, just over 80% of the population was living in urban areas, and roughly two thirds of Canadians were living in a census metropolitan area.Apr 23, 2014" So your argument that we all live 10 miles apart is totally wrong and ignorant.
Pete, your refusal to address my simple question is evident of your lack of factual support for your assumptions and declarations.....and you called me childish...
Alpha and Hub, What are you showing us here?!?!? the data CLEARLY states that you have 4.88 intentional homicides to our 1.68 per 100,000 people.....how does that help your argument?!?!?! To me, that TOTALLY supports MY argument that easy access to hand guns etc facilitates homicide. Thanks
Any other "points" you guys would like to make?

The only reason gun deaths per capital are as high as they are is that is taking the whole country as one zone. Leave out gun free states and areas like Chicago, DC, parts of California and deaths by fire arms would be so low places like Canada would be copying our hand gun rules

14 hand guns 32 long guns 8 "assult rifles" And several muzzleloaders, air guns, amd a hom made potato gun I'm amazed they havent grown arms and legs and killed someone yet. All in a house with 2 young boys. Guns are evil people, send them all to me so I can keep a close eye on them.

You are not changing any minds Correcting ignorant comments about my country is not intended to "change" your minds You made some "points" I respectfully reviewed them in context and replied based on fact. You were attempting to change my mind but you failed to provide one iota of evidence to support that change...

NEVER accept the facts and NEVER consider other's opinions, is that standard MO? NOT ONE OF YOU has answered my question yet I have addressed ALL of your points....

I'm not trying to change your mind because you live in a completly different country and your thoughts on our laws just don't matter here in the USA. II'm glad I live in a free country where I can carry a weapon to protect myself and my family.
