Maybe It is a sign of the times but the Church I attend has designated shooters at every service. Made my presence known to them. Thinkin after a bit of training besides our full time L E O at the school some teachers have become designated shooters. I remember a long time ago when going to Church if I could have a couple more minutes on the swing set. Now we actually do NEED designated shooters in Church!  Cry Rather large and subdued mournful sigh here. RIDE SAFE.

per your linked article and other info I could find. It's not against Texas law to CC in church. A church can decide on its own to ban guns. But they have to post signs of such or pass written notice of such to each person entering church. Was this church one to ban guns ? I don't know if there are statistics comparing church's in this way. Texas is a pretty conservative, gun rights state. I can't imagine many church's doing this. Maybe I'm wrong, I only seem to go to church's for funerals anymore.

"A short time later as law enforcement responded that suspect right at the Wilson/Guadalupe County line crashed out and was found deceased in his vehicle."

an example why everybody needs to be armed, caused the 100s of local cops, FBI, ATF are only minutes away after the shooter is done.

CC NOT illegal. I'd guess half of the adults in my church carry all the time. That is in addition to the designated carrying ushers.

Legal and allowed in this church?  Probably.  But complacency wins in this small town where ppl admittedly feel felt safe.  Not carrying in church?  May be a good time to change that one.

We'll, I apologise for putting out erroneous info.  Someone I trust and who also runs our church security was sure it was illegal in TX. Seems laws were changed in TX fairly recently and still some confusion maybe.

I bet there will be considerably more carrying in church next Sunday.

I have my 4" S&W 686 with 18 rounds of pp .357 rounds with me every Sunday.  At least six others I know of including the pastor carry every week as well.

Whole heartedly agree.   Some folks carry all the time, others only when in certain situations or locations.   We've never had such an event in _______________, so why would I carry my __________?    The unfortunate truth is, one never knows.

You are correct but seems it was prior to 1997. My bad for not reading the whole article guess I am almost as bad as the MSM on not posting the truth.

It does look like a good guy with a gun did stop him eventually, just not soon enough.

I read the bad guy was court martialed 3 years ago; but it didn't say why.  Dishonorable discharge from Air Force.

Yep....a good guy with a rifle slowed him up at the very least.
Interesting to see if the good guy caused enough damage to eventually cause the wreck and stop him. Hope so.
More and more churches now have "Security Details".
I, for one, think that it is time to lock the doors just prior to starting the service.

What if he's already inside?  What's to stop him from shooting as ppl leave the church?
Sorry, but I really hate the sound of locking the doors of a church... not good.

I'm not clear on who and how he was stopped. Did a civilian take his gun when he left the church ? Then was killed 30 miles away in a police chase ?

This is the problem and the mistake made at times like this.  It's easy to assume the next one will go down the same as this did.

The only thing we should plan for is enough good guys with guns.  The rest is anyone's guess

Shocked Shocked I've read some that said a civilian from across the street came and took his rifle. I've read some that says the police chase ended 30 miles away in his death. Not known if the cops killed him or he committed suicide. If it's very clear to you, would you explain it ?

Just from reading about this tragedy in Texas it would appear a lot of us here attend the Church of Our choice. There seems to be lowlifes that consider gatherings of Christians target rich enviorments. While I do grieve for their loss there in South Texas I personally REFUSE to knuckle under to the devils minions. I still feel much safer/better/loved in church than anywhere else that comes to mind. Wasn't there a time when desecrating a house of GOD was unthinkable?  Cry As I stated ealier-a sign of the times. RIDE SAFE.

How so?  An AR (unless altered) is just a semi-auto like any other semi-auto.  Did it kill more people because it looks scary?

A dishonorable discharge means it was illegal for him to own a firearm of any kind. In some states that includes compound and cross bows. FYI, full auto guns, while not truly illegal to own, require many hoop jumps and a wad of funds you have burning a hole in your pocket. Or just go to the local gang hang out and get anything you want.(edit) Of course that would be a felony but criminals don't seem to mind.

Thanks for that info, I did not know that. Found this:
In many states a dishonorable discharge is deemed the equivalent of a felony conviction, with attendant loss of civil rights. Additionally, US federal law prohibits possession of firearms by those who have been dishonorably discharged per the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Unfortunately, such laws don't carry much weight or do much good in that criminals don't respect the law anyway.

I hope you are being sarcastic. I am pretty sure guns bought by convicted felons aren't bought at a legal FFA dealer. See Mr. Holder and the "fast and furious" debacle if you think guns are only available through the channels that law abiding citizens use.
