Picking her up today. Great shape. Been sitting for 2 yrs. Only two carbs on this one, so no big deal. LOL. First pic is what she looks like now. Second is something to what I would like to do.

yah, those old 80s hondas keep running, but require some work that I know.

kid bought a 1983 v65 magna even though I tried talking him out of it A LOT, but his money, he will learn.  Needs some work but is runable and goes like SNOT WICKED FAST would put our Valks to shame in a drag race.

New battery came with it. Had to put acid in and slow charge it. Fresh gas and some B12. Tried fire a few times but no luck. Pulled carbs and disassembled. Here's what I found. No wonder she wouldn't start. LOL. Got it all soaking now. Will reassemble later today. See what I get.

Yes that V65 was wild. It would do 0 to 60 in first gear and pull the wheel right off the ground when you hit second. All in a little over a block. You better have your head on when you twisting that tail. crazy2

The carbs in my 75 wing that I got three months ago were all messed up also but not that bad.I finally got it running but not good enough to ride. I just bought a set of four vacuum gauges to sync them. I'm waiting for delivery from Amazon. Hoping to get it ready for spring. Got it cheap $750 an 32000 miles on it. I've always heard that they were fast and had a chance to ride it on my street for a few hundred feet,yup it's fast even though the carbs are messed up. Road test say 1/4 mile in less than 13 seconds.

Wicked cool if you do the racer thing! Never built a racer, but I've cut up enough SOHC CB750's that one once peed oil on itself just because it saw me walking up towards it  Grin

You did? Don't remember that. I did buy them but got them for free. They had a set for $75 and if I signed up for their Charge card I got $80 credit toward the purchase. I'll never use the card and will end up cutting it up later, don't want it an don't need it.

I think. Not sure but these carbs only have one vacuum port on one carb so its a manual sync

 The first two years of the V-65 Magna were the best . Honda de-tuned them (I was told) because they were to fast. I rode one several times that belonged to a friend. Use Velcro on the bike and your pants.

Second bike has real clip-ons. So much better looking than those who simply roll the one piece handlebars over.

Forgive the "mother hen" bit if you're already familiar with that bike (I'm not) but does it have a cam chain adjustment post sticking out below and between the cams? If so, make sure to check the follower shoe that the chain rides on for wear, and go by the shop manual to get the crank in the correct position before adjusting the tensioner so that the chain isn't loaded on the wrong side when you set it.

Some of those auto adjusters aren't to be trusted. CX500 and CB400T had problems. Owned both of these.

My first bike was a 1981 CM400T (quite similar to your 198? CB450SC), which I got in 1990.  That summer I rode it from Calgary to Indiana and back.  MPH X 100 gives you RPM in fifth (top) gear, so after riding all day at 6000+ RPM, my hands would buzz when I clapped them together.

Got the carbs cleaned and reinstalled. Cranked on first click. Running smooth and no rattles.

No rattles....great!!
If the cam adjuster is anything like the ones on our CB900s you need to roll the motor over while the tension is off and catch it while the slack is gone. I do them with the valve cover off. Also, just snug on the adjuster bolt then tighten the nut down. If not....on your own!  angel

My first bike was a 1978 CB400A ( the CB400T with the 2 speed Hondamatic instead of a proper 5 speed manual) that I bought new. Rode it over 20K miles, including at college. Eventually, the electric starter quit and I had to to kickstart it. Gave it up for a 1976 CB750F (SOHC) that I bought from a college roommate.

according to service manual. It says just loosen lock not on a adjuster and retighten. Never heard a problem but checked it anyway. No change in sound. I have a front brake caliper semi seized up. but was able to go through 2 gears around the culdisac with no worries as far as engine goes. Ordered new pads, they were done. Now waiting on parts. once ft brakes are good then two new tires. Dry rot. and then no other worries. Well worth 400. No extra money spent, other then about an hour half of my time.

Bought my son an 82 CB450 Nighthawk for his first bike.

He rode it all over the place.


BTW: I still have  one that is a parts bike.  If you need anything I'll be glad to check and see if I have it.

I could use a cheap side stand. The one on this has that steel loop broke off. Was gonna get a friend to weld me one on . but that takes him bringing his gear over. no front brakes right now. Have pads on order.

Within a year of purchase new of the showroom floor those 4 mufflers started to rot out from both sides. I believe I found some Kirker megaphones-4 into 2 and took out most of the make quiet stuff. But as usual I digress. Happy to see an old ride back in the wind. $400.00? cursed good deal. RIDE SAFE.

Nice to here your tale. My first thought was to cut her up and make café racer. Now that I've spent some maintenance time with her, I think I'm gonna restore her the rest of the way to her beauty. Small dent left side tank. and do front brakes and new tires.
