Lost 4MPG After Desmog. Was averaging 32 MPG before desmog. Now getting 28MPG. Pulled bowls on carbs and cleaned every thing. Jets, etc. When doing desmog. Has 57,000 miles on it. Had 15,000 on it when I got it. PO said it had a 6 degree wheel on it. I did have what came off, but, now can not find it. Runs better than it ever has after desmog. Suggestions on how to get some  MPGs back? Have not changed riding habits after desmog if that is what ya'll are thinking.   Thanks.

Start at square one. Something has been missed. I have done many de-smogs and set the carbs. All had performance and mileage improvements. Is it possible a vacuum port or exhaust plug was missed. Are all carb screws set the same. If you were in the carbs , are they jetted correctly. There are many possibilities and it will be found. I think the 6 degree timing wheel should be gone.  You will get a lot of info , please let us know what you find.

Your MPG sounds poor before the desmog, something doesn't sound right. My desmog had zero change in fuel mileage.

My 97 only gets about the 32 mpg you stated and has since new but I didn't buy it for fuel mileage. If I had I would have bought a much smaller underpowered bike. Or a Harley which mine got 55 mpg at any speed. ( only good thing about the HD I owned)

Maybe start the bike and check how the exhaust pipes are warming up from each cylinder. Maybe you have one/some not firing?

Pull your plugs and see how they look, might be running a bit on the rich side. If you were only getting 32 mpg before in basically stock condition, you're low to begin with. Total stock should get you in the upper 30's easily....37-40, depending on your driving habits of course. How many turns out did you give the Pilot jet screws? Stock doesn't need to be much more than 2 or 2 1/4. Keep us posted on what you find works. :cooldude:
