Anybody here a fan of Alexa or the DOT? I've always considered them a little over priced but The Home Depot is going to have the DOT for $29....   I have a couple of sisters that swear by them for the music capabilities....   any fans out there?  should I jump on the $29 deal??

I have the Echo, I think it's called. It's about 10" tall. The music capabilities are fantastic. I can't vouch for the Dot, though.

I have one Echo (the original model) since January 2015 and love it. It is an awesome value if you have an Amazon Prime account, as you can stream from their catalog.

It also doubles-down as a bluetooth speaker, can stream from both web radios as also local radios (if they have an internet version).

Provides news as also weather forecast, you can set alarms and timers.

I haven't used it yet for home automation, but there are quite a few products (e.g. smart bulbs) that are compatible.

I imagine that the Dot should do it all as its bigger brother, but maybe the sound quality won't be as good given its small size. But IIRC, it has an stereo output, so you could pair it with a bigger speaker.

DOT has Blue Tooth capabilities to go to a remote  speaker...

Have the echo, for 3.99 a month you can subscribe to Amazon music unlimited just for the Echo.  If you have SiriusXM you can also get that on the Echo.

We have one. We leave it unplugged unless we need it for something specific. Remember, they're listening to EVERYTHING as long as it's plugged in.
