Reports are saying he'd been suffering from dementia.  R.I.P. Malcom, tell Bon the fans say howdy.

He'd been sick for quite a while. They noticed a while back his playing was going down hill so Angus I guess had him checked out. He was in early stags of dementia?

Sad sad sad.  What memories you and your band produced Malcolm.  I will never forget being at work in the office of a Roadway Express Terminal ( I think Kalamazoo ) listening to an interview with Kevin Cronin on a rock station in Grand Rapids.  Kevin was talking about their REO Speedwagon tour and said he was blown away by the back up band and how they were going to be big over here,  then proceeded to play Whole Lota Rosie.  That was it, I was hooked.  Then Bon died to soon.  In summer of 1980 at the then formed series of concerts ( that basically went unpoliced - just a crazy time ) know as the Toledo Speedway Jam.  First that eerie gong of  bell and onto the stage they arrive with new lead singer Brian Johnson and that unforgettable riff of Hells Bells with Malcolm and  Brother Angus cutting loose.
RIP Malcolm you were as good as it gets.

I would suspect he had dimentia well past 3 years, but hard to tell really since it affects each one individually differently.  My mom has been diagnosed with dimentia/altzheimers for 7 years now and at that time the drs. think she had it a few years prior to that thinking at that time she was in her mid to late stages as well which I still disagree on since only the last year or so has gotten much worse.
