the funniest thing i ever heard was the tale he told about his jobs,, picking strawberries, he tried other jobs but they didnt work out so he picked some more strawberries, then he wrote o Lord Im tired of living this away and he got out of that strawberry patch in a hurry.. i will try to find a link, its really funny. he lived just up the road from me..

  Son-in-law was doing stage lighting when Mel opened his theater in Branson Mo. I briefly met him. I do have an autographed white ball cap from him. I always liked the older C/W singers better than most of the current singers.
  Because I had to leave , I missed meeting Burl Ives at the theater. He was passing thru and did a show with Mel. I think he was my favorite balladeer .
