I haven't ridden much since the Fall Color Ride... missed Mac's ride, but have ridden both bikes to work often enough to keep them ungummed... I don't think the fuel injected 1800 has as much to worry about as the six carburetors in the 1500... I worked with the chainsaw in the woods yesterday, cleaning up some of the last trail-blocking Irma damage... followed up by a nice ride on the 1800... When I took off the shadows were already getting long... Grady Argo and his wife farmed the land I live on now and they lived in this old house when he came back from WWII... their grandson is tearing it down piece by piece now, it looks like it will fall down the rest of the way the next time the wind blows hard...  I'd never gone straight across at this five points intersection before... straight across heads up towards the beginning of the mountains at Walhalla...  The road loops back, doesn't go anywhere, but wasn't bad once I got back in there...  I like old houses...  South Carolina congressman Gresham Barrett's family lives (lived?) at this farm, I'm not sure how old the house is...  DDT has a post about "change"... this road has been dirt until just recently...  My new camera takes lousy pictures, but OK video... all these "pictures" are frames exported from a video... here's 40 seconds extracted from the video going up the formerly dirt road... I mount the camera on the air wing on the 1500, and on the windshield on the 1800... video from the 1500 is all sweet engine sounds, but just scratchy wind noise on the 1800... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heoHjXIF55cThe shadows were REALLY long by the time I got back near home... Nice to see another ride report, my favorite part of this forum...thx for posting. One thing I noticed right off in all your photos here and the video as well...not even one other vehicle  I have a few back routes here that are unknown to the Urbanites that pass through my region enroute to the BC interior which are great for a quick day ride. Old houses...whenever we're passing through some of the smaller towns here in BC or when riding through the US, I always wonder about who lived/grew up there...so much character in those old buildings. |

I made the wrong choice coming back through that five points intersection and got behind a pickup truck with a flappy load for a while... that video looks like you were speeding just a tad?  I love country backroads with hardly any traffic since the Valk does not appreciate stop and go traffic much. Too bad I put all 4-5 cycles under cover today for a long winters nap until near April 1st or so..  getting the URGE already for another ride vs. having to wait another 4+ months.  |

I think the editing you do to upload with your described slow internet connection makes it seem faster. I really like the shadow in the last pic. |

Boy, some of you guys are lucky with the roads right in your own backyards. Around here it's like 45 minutes just to escape congestion to get get to some OK roads to ride and then you're still on high alert for the idiots who have no idea about driving.

We keep all our idiots over towards Clemson, I just don't go that way  ... It is nice, though, being able to "hit the country" right away, I'm rolling up into the Blue Ridge in less than half an hour if I want... They say that secondary roads are more dangerous than interstates, so high alert is always a good idea... -Mike |

couldnt see the pics on my samsung S3 while waiting around for a case in court but real happy I just got to see them this morning from my desktop.
Well worth the wait Mike !
I got another gopro clone a while back and need to really figure out where to get it set up on the bikes so the movies look somewhat like yours. Thanks for the great report and pics.

Same deal for me Mike. It's the better part of an hour, in any direction, to get out of suburbia and related traffic. I mean, I can find a little lane or two to ride in closer, but in 15 minutes, I'm right back in the crush. |

I am at the goat trail leading to Bear Mountain bridge in 10 minutes and I can hit some switchbacks in a mile or so
Guess its lucky I live in the Hudson Valley

I can if I desire Be draggin pegs within a mile of my casa. No Brag Just Fact. And in about an hour give or take I can be in Arkansas-and YUP my passport up to date. When I lived in East Texas-Garrison Nacogdoches area-not too awful far to peg draggin there. When I lived in South East Colorado-Lamar-long ways to serious curves. Illinois had the on and off ramps from the interstates.  Missouri seems to keep the road system here in pretty decent shape. Course Ain't talkin St Lou or K C or Springfield here.  I still enjoy pickin a line and more importantly-keeping the line I want. RIDE SAFE. |

I've told my wife if we ever move again I'm just lighting the whole place on fire and walking away. I feel bad for my kids having to go thru all my crap when I die. Hopefully there will be enough money left to make it worth their while. |

Another year or so maybe of working full time (a pretty good gig of 32 years to date), we decided this past April not to wait, so after 30 years in the same house already just past the outer edge of SW BC suburbia, we pulled the plug and moved another couple hours out. Now we're smack dab in the middle of where we've always played....no traffic and abundant lakes, mountains, beaches, fishing, and most importantly, unfettered riding opportunities right out of our driveway. I'm fortunate that I can work some from home and that I still enjoy all my work travel around the continent, so we just decided to do what we were planning to do in retirement now and not waste anymore of our "youth"  That's the good....the not so good was the chore of sifting through 30 years of living and raising a family in the same house....can't beleive how much crap one can accumulate. The local high school and charities did quite well from our purging |
