Loved both Deadwood and Hell on Wheels...started watching both of those shows again and I will definitely check out Cowboys

From its debut, Deadwood drew attention for its extensive profanity.

Deadwood was teasingly unwatchable. Good actors, seemingly
good production (based on how much of it I could watch). Every
sentence of every line was shouted profanity, not what I want
while sitting back relaxing... I can barely take the amount of
profanity and naked people groaning through tedious sex
scenes in Punisher, which we are watching now, but Deadwood
didn't last five minutes... should I even try Godless?

I watched Hell on Wheels with its endless killing scenes.  Frankly I'm getting tired of these violent shootenups with all of the profanity and unique ways of killing and shock.  Eyeballs eating, kill and feed 'em to the hogs, etc.. The villain Swede was almost impossible to kill.    I doubt if I'll watch Godless form what you're saying.

I'd rather watch something like The Hatifelds and Mccoys. That seemed more realistic to me without lots of excessive profanity and killings.

I do enjoy watching "Blue Bloods"  but there are very few of those TV series or Netflix knock on wood specials like that.

Paul, I have watched some of them. IMO, reality shows are ok but the camera presence makes me wonder about how people react to that.  Even little problems are hyped up and fizzle out.

One of my favorite pic was Hyena Road.  It seems to me that Canadian films are somewhat better overall than ours.  I tend to like more personal films and less 'over the hill' special effects crap with poor dialogue and the four letter word.

I was raised on John Wayne and Robert Mitchum type actors.  None of this Steven Segal crap.

I'm with Wayne on this, seems like they can't make a decent movie for the entire family anymore. I have no doubt the old west was brutal in many ways, language included, but that doesn't mean it needs that language to project it. My wife and I watch Bluebloods together, one of the few we do watch in the same room.....I have good hearing, she doesn't. I also liked Longmire, haven't found it yet as a new series, anyone know the channel affiliation? I like to watch the Velocity Channel(all automotive stuff) and the AHC(American Hero Channel) which has a lot of war history. Recently it went back to some time BC and came forward, talking about various military geniuses. A lot of WWII & WWI, really good stuff for the history buff, a ton of actual film is played. I'd like to find Plan Resurrection, watch a lot of the History channel, some TCM(Turner Classic Movies). Seldom watch anything on the major networks; NBC, CBS, ABC, etc.

The newest (and last) season of Longmire just came out on Netflix. A couple of
the later seasons weren't as good (I didn't think) as how the series started out,
but this last season was pretty dang good.

If you Netflix guys didn't know. You need to clean out your "Viewing Activity". This stops the algorithms from offering the "same" type of content over and over.

Go to your account
Scroll down until you see viewing activity
Delete all the shows you've watched and don't want to watch again.

If it asks if you want to delete a series be warned that if you've only watched a couple of episodes it will delete all episodes from your "My List".

There are many good quality full length movies on You Tube...in particular many of the classic westerns which in my opinion, are more "real" (and certainly more enjoyable to watch) than newer shows/movies of this genre that go way overboard with the profanity and gratuitous violence in trying to be realistic. Solo 1 - yes there are some very good Canadian movies which tend to be a bit more subtle and with fewer special effects...in many cases this could be due to having lower production budgets so they rely on lower cost "unknown" actors and concentrate more on storyand real life situations than special effects. Funny though, many Canadians prefer American films for that very reason and bemoan the fact that Canadian films are too "boring"....I am not one of those....

British comedy is dry, sublime at times, and usually very good....my favorite Netflix show/series recently discovered Is The Detectorists. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea especially those looking for shoot em up action, but it's very well acted , witty, and funny.

I've never recommended The Detectorists. It seemed way too British in pace, humor, setting and script.

Exactly! Which is why I found it entertaining...different actors, setting, a good dose of originality which is in very short supply in the entertainment business these days, and a real subtlety and difference about the humor. Also has a cool theme song/music...which I'm learning to play myself

I started by the Punisher (half-way through it) before checking Godless.


Maybe because of this, I didn't think that Godless was too violent.

i also enjoyed Sweet Bean, don't knock it. No four letter words, no blowemup, no nuttin, but a conundrum and personal reactions, somewhat goofy but typically a Japanese movie.

For a good oldie, Heaven Knows Mr. Allison starring Mitchum and the hottie from From Here To Eternity in a entirely different roll.

Dark is my favorite that I have watched. The Tunnel was very good but unfortunatly is no longer available.

Bottom line for me is that Actors and Actresses in this country really suck.
Hollywood has not put out anything worth watching for years.
What Netflix has done is to go to other countries that have a fantastic pool of Actors and Actresses along with writers that know how to tell a story.
All Hollywood knows how to do is posed action shots, big explosions, unbelievable story lines.

Actually Deadwood is fairly accurate, except some of the Hickok stuff. It wasn't a pleasant town. Still had prostitution up until the mid to late 80's. I do think they went overboard on the cussing.

My favorite right now is Rick and Morty.  Will not be everyone's cup of tea (may not be anyone's cup of tea).  Its animated, Rick is the grandfather and Morty the grandson.  Rick lives in the family's garage where he tinkers a lot with other planets, dimensions and parallel universes.  He's the smartest person in the universe, but he's a real asshole, has a foul mouth and a drinking problem.  He pulls Morty out of school all the time to go on adventures with him.  My wife hates it.

Just finished binge watching Godless on Netflix.

Turns out I'm glad that I did.

It's pretty good!

The use of profanity is actually very minimal (I've heard worse on network TV).

There's some nudity but it's limited and brief as well.

All in all it was a good watch and Oss is right the last episode was very good.
