They tried to blow up the Pontiac Silverdome today,
but some detonator dropped the ball  Roll Eyes

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/12/03/pontiac-silverdome-implosion-failure/917332001/

Man, I got tons of memories in this joint, from Billy Sims and Barry Sanders to Keith Moon and the WHO and to the USFL Michigan Panthers with Anthony Carter and Bobby Herbert. LOTS of free concerts and high times.  uglystupid2

Somehow, it just seems appropriate that the ACME Co  was unable to bring this concrete behemoth down. This joint was, in the best Motown tradition, built FORD tough, even though no one has wanted it around for a LONG Time (it sucked)...

Oh yeah, we just got home from a WONDERFUL December motorcycle ride through farm country. 55 Fahrenheits and sunny, the many small town silos from Lambertville to Ida & Maybee and Belleville all seemed to be in full capacity. Every biker we encountered had HUGE, goofy-ass ear to ear smiles.
Woo - freakin - HOO!  Evil

This about sums it up:
from Wash Post:

Welp.

A funny thing happened when, early Sunday morning, engineers and explosives experts tried to bring down the old Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan with carefully planned explosions. In a giant raspberry directed at the experts, the place refused to budge. Although construction crews said the implosion did break off steel beams, the stadium was still standing when the dust cleared.

That’s because, officials told Detroit’s WXYZ, the Silverdome was “built a little too well.”

So the next step is to just chill for a while. Maybe have some doughnuts while we wait.

Although the TV station quoted officials saying they would just let gravity do its job, Rick Cuppetilli, executive vice president with the demolition company Adamo, said 10 percent of the explosive charges in eight key locations failed to go off because of a wiring issue.

“Unless we find something in the next few hours researching the wiring, we will take it down mechanically,” Rick Cuppetilli told the Free Press. “We haven’t found the wire yet. It’s going to take us a while to research it all.”

Well, you changed the title and post entirely.

Originally, it just said Karat and >..... thus my pic (and question mark).

Cheers back at you.

I used to watch them dynamite slag out of the Zug Island blast furnace cast houses.   There, they always used too much explosive, and the blast mats got stuck in the roof.  Grin

Hundreds.
We were trying to figure how many at Pontiac, I'll need to look at a list of all concerts.
Used to climb over the turnstile like a ladder. Later, they put barb wire on top, so we had to take hippy blankets to throw on top of the wire  uglystupid2
It was easier to just push the loading gates apart and slip through and blend into the crowd. Walk  in sideways - pretend you are leaving  Grin .
These antics were influential in my eventual paid security and personal protection gigs - I knew ALL the access points in ALL the venues, so, instead of seeing ~everyone~ live, for free, I got paid rather well for bringing in a lot of my friends!   cooldude

My grandfather worked on the Silverdome and I went to the first game played there. The parking lot was mud and the dome was incomplete. Had to park at the Miracle Mile shopping center...

The detonation woke me up this morning.  I didn't know what it was, and rolled over and went back to sleep.  I live probably 10 miles away.  Must have been really loud for the brothers and sisters that live nearby.

Maybe they actually employed ole Wylie himself......... While his extensive use or attempted use of High Explosives is admirable he is lacking in useful skills.
Having been in the bidness for over 26 years I can assure you that there is going to be a major ass whoopin' administered to somebody.
