Friends Smart car has a soft top so the tarp was to protect it from leaks as the snow thaws. I put the tarp on after the final scrape off before bed last night. About 2 inches fell last night.

I scraped it off a couple of times. Otherwise it would have had 7 to 9 inches on top.

not really too dangerous if under 10 mph or so since a smart car for two is not much bigger than my can am 2-up ATV and have done that dozens of times with a 50 foot rope up and down our city street when the kids were younger on a heavy duty sled.

by the way, keep the snow down south where it belongs... cooldude

the rope though on that one pic of the white truck in front looked a tad bit short to me though, but adults on sleds are usually able to get off quickly enough to avoid danger and like said, 10mph or so will not hurt too bad jumping off the sled if need be...

It's not so much the speed, but not being able to steer out of danger from other vehicles. Plus in those freezing conditions other vehicles have a hard time seeing a low to the ground sled. We did it numerous times as kids along with other stupid stuff. Not passing judgement, but GR is right. It's very dangerous.

Wow, says the people that ride around on 800 lb motorcycles, at and above highway speeds, mixed with other vehicles.

Life is dangerous.

That spells F U N to me.

Don’t get me wrong Bill. It is fun and I’ve done much worse. But I doubt I’d put kids back there. One of the stupidest things we used to do, we called “hooky bobbing”. Grab on to the back bumper of the school bus out of sight of his mirrors and hang on. If you weren’t good at it and fell off you’d have to walk the rest of the way to school. Thankfully there were no cell phones then. The back end of a school bus swings out a lot surprisingly.

Yup, that was the fun part. Wink

My buddies and I did a lot more stupid (fun) things than that also.  We lived.

Things that could go wrong:

Driver stops, kids crack heads on bumper. Even at 10MPH this could be very serious.

Driver stops, kids slide under vehicle, driver goes, running over kids.

Driver turns, kids swing out, striking something solid, or into path of another vehicle.

Other vehicle turns behind tow vehicle, not seeing kids being towed, running over them.

The risks of something going wrong are much higher than for motorcycle riding, and it's not the driver's risk, but the kids'.

One circular street in sub division.

No other traffic.

Watchers in bed of pick up.

Older teenagers being towed.

They had fun and so did we the watchers watching them having fun.

Today I'm going to be walking on ice. Please let me have a Health and Safety appraisal before I venture out  Grin

This is the 3d time I've seen a county (taxpayer)-paid (private) contractor big 4WD truck with blade motor around my subdivision for hours at 1mph, with no snow or ice on the road at all to plow (yeah, about 2-3 inches in the scape, yards, roofs, but the pavement was too warm for snow to build up on).

I am torn between calling the responsible county office to report a waste of taxpayer money, and the knowledge that if I make the call, my subdivision will probably never see a snow plow again in my lifetime.

I think this is the same guy who loves to plow a giant pile of ice/snow across your driveway, after you broke your back shoveling it out by hand (the snowblower won't budge that icy mix).

You may recall I pointed out a while back that my county budget is 3 Billion a year. (and we pay the taxes to support it)

When I was teen we used old car hoods.  You could fit about 4 of us on one if it was an old Cadillac hood.  When they plowed the Liquor store parking lot they'd leave angled bank of snow that was perfect.  All you had to was swing the car a little and the hood would swing over and hit the snow ramp.
I know, i'm surprised none of us were killed or injured but we had a lot of snow to work with and if things looked dicey you just bailed into a snow bank.
