So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: December 11, 2017, 07:18:58 AM »

Mornings that I don't have something to do I watch the Today Show.   Megan Kelly has a thirty minute segment during that 3 or 4 hour stint.

Having watched several days in a row due to the cooler temps outside.   I finally decided today that Ms Kelly has a score to settle with President Trump.   She's been grinding that ax for weeks and now she's swinging it.

It's been Roy Moore mostly the last few weeks but today, she brought on three women accusing the President of more sexual misdeeds.   IMHO, it's pretty clear that she has an agenda.

That's not to suggest that sexual predators should be allowed to exist anywhere but in jail but, provide evidence, not just accusations................   NBC is about to lose a viewer.

I quit watching NBC when the blew up the T Martin thing several years.  Doctored the conversation between watch guy and home base.  cut and pasted it to make it appear racial.

As I did the same with CNN during the Ferguson riots. Watching Van Jones accuse the police of excessive use of force during peaceful protest when buildings are on fire in the background... Agendas in the media will hopefully ruin the media.

These media outlets, as well as the NY Times and Washington Post created a brand new genre of information where no credible, and in most cases, no source at all exists.  This past week has been a series of gotcha stories about the President and all turn out to be fake, yes FAKE, news.  Unfortunately, by the time they're caught in the lie, 85 million people around the world have already seen it and shared it, adding their snide little remarks about his hair and then the women will bash his wife as well.

Pretty sure they don't know what else to do with Kelly..... She cost them an arm and a leg to hire and has not worked out very well so far.

When she was at Fox she had the same  ax to grind.
She is not a woman that I would want to meet in a dark place.
Meg shows mostly hate for stuff, seems no good news from her.

What bothers me is President Clinton actually had sex with a young intern (in the White House) and I don't remember any of the liberal news or any Democrat asking for his impeachment!

You can't judge the past by the public moral standards of today.

That'd be like condemning a person running for senate for actions he may or may not have done 40+ years ago that were socially acceptable at the time, but no longer are.

I'm old enough to remember 40 years ago. It was NOT socially acceptable for a 32 year old man to attempt to have sex with a 14 year old girl.

The thought of Meathead running my web or e-mail server is almost as terrifying as the thought of Serk butchering your meat...

Wait, that didn't come out the way I meant it...

But you don't want me butchering your meat any more than you'd want Mr. Head running a web server...

Wait, that still didn't sound right.

You know what I mean...

well this reminded me of something I just watched (for like the 100th time) this weekend. It was an episode of MASH (1975) when Hawkeye meets BJ and they are in the officers club.

I sure the laughter was from a laugh track, but it shows how young girls are viewed by older men.

I sure the laughter was from a laugh track, but it shows how young girls are viewed by older men.

I'm thinking it shows how Hollywood (maybe specific writers) were seeking to get a laugh.  Anyone who wants to get upset today about this should also be upset about the advertising on television.   Sex sells and lots of commercials on television are pushing that form of attention getter to sell their products.   Tell me I'm wrong on that.

Television has a social impact.   Have you noticed how there are so many more minorities on television and in commercials now than 20 years ago.   We are being acclimated to what Hollywood thinks we should find acceptable.   That's not to suggest 20 years ago was acceptable.   But, we're being socialized and manipulated.  More mixed race couples and gay couples (as an example) are on the boob tube, more shows that would have never seen the light of day previously are now being shown during prime time hours.   We're all effected by what we see on television.   Observation equals normalization and eventually acceptance.    What used to be acceptable advertising is now considered demeaning.   We're all products of what we see and experience.

While I don't believe any male hasn't (at some point in his life) been sexually aggressive toward a woman, not all of us are sexual predators.  That can also be said of the female of the species.   Again, who can claim to have been an angel when attempting to become romantic with some young lady.   I can't.    There were rejections and there were willing participants.   How many of us couldn't have a "willing participant" come back now and say, "Oh, I didn't want to".

The whole point of this thread was to think about the allegations and ask for some proof.   Ms. Kelly's guests were full of accusations but, not one shred of evidence.   As  can be shown by all of the forced resignations coming now.   The media has jumped on this like stink on poop.

It seems the "sexual revolution" may have back fired on those who were so agreeable for that freedom back then.   No means no, I fully support that but, that doesn't mean those interactions we all see everyday aren't a two way street.   YMMV

Rams I have to agree with you on all counts. As a father of 2 girls (17 & 20) I worry about them and their personal safety. We've tried to teach them but one still worries.

I'm starting to think sexual harassment has gotten blown way out of proportion.

Is a man now suppose to sit back and wait for a woman to approach him?

Was Al Franken guilty? Who can tell. Is Trump guilty? I don't know. Same with Moore and all the others. Have there been abuses of women over the centuries by men in pwoer? I'm sure there have been, especially in the entertainment industry. "Do you want to be a star...sit on the couch or meet me in my hotel room for a private audition."

I don't know what the correct answer is but I do know for someone to step forward and say "He did this" and for that man to now be on the defensive with no way to prove innocence is not right and as a father of 2 girls it worries me. Would my girls lie? I doubt it, but many others would.

As for Megan Kelly, I use to like her show on FOX, but I stopped watching her about 2 years before she left, it seemed to me her show changed and I didn't like it.

As the father of both a son and a daughter and as a male, I've seen 3 of the four sides of this debate.   I can tell you this, a father never quits worrying about those kids and what could happen or what accusations could be made.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm existing in the Twilight Zone.   crazy2

Mike, I recommend that every woman read the book, The Gift of Fear: And Other Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence by Gavin de Becker, especially young and/or attractive ones, single or married, who are more likely to be the targets of predatory men.  Get a copy for each of your daughters for Christmas.

I agree, it is troubling to see decades old accusations brought up without the chance of rebuttal.

BUT, with that said, I think our president has acted like a pig, no different than most male locker room or bar stool type conversations at one time or other. I know I am guilty of saying things (not necessarily believing) that I should not have regarding the opposite sex, but times change with age, much like Jersey, my attitude toward woman changed dramatically when I found myself with 3 daughters.

We all change as we mature, I do believe that the president has acted badly in the past... but that does not mean that he still acts that way.

No matter how you cut it, he is a refreshing change to the rest of the politicians, and was the ONLY choice in the last election. To those that don't like it, learn to deal with it, at least for the next 3 years!

Jim

PS- Gryphon, I agree, The Gift of Fear: And Other Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence by Gavin de Becker is a good read for young woman.

The whole crew on the today show hates Trump. It's very evident. As for all these sexual accusations,  every one of the accusers should have to take a polygraph, no excuses. What a band wagon this has become. There has been more excuses given by the accusers than someone going to jail as to why it didn't get reported.

Fail or refuse the polygraph,  game over. To make accusations about something that happened 10+ years ago is a little unsettling. I'm probably one of the few that isn't buying these antiquated accusations. It's all of a sudden become important after years of silence. "Reprocussion" is why I didn't report it most have said. But the supposed offenders for the most part are still high profile people. A sexual assault should have been reported immediately. If Joe crap the rag man would have committed the assault, his ass would have been in jail immediately. Sorry, I can't get a handle on all of this.
