Dennis, the controversy of some of the players taking a knee during the Anthem has nothing to do with our military or our veterans. It is wrong of them to do it in my opinion. If I was an owner I would fire any players doing it for conduct detrimental to the team. But I'm not. I watch the NFL because I like football. To allow a handful of wrongheaded players to dictate what we do seems stupid to me. There are many GOOD citizens who are players. They are patriotic and do much for charities and our country. They get little credit for this. As an example, if it was determined that some Honda engineers were found to disrespect our country in some way. But the other 99% of Honda workers didn't, and showed respect and good citizenship. Would you get rid of your bike ? Probably not, and for good reason. There are always going to be a percentage of misguided, stupid people in all aspects of our lives. Do we let them have control over us ?

Haven't watched an NFL game at all this year...till today when I saw the end of the Steelers and Pats game.

That was a catch and a touchdown. If a rule says it wasn't, the rule is asinine. He caught the ball. The catch was legit when his knee was on the ground. At that point he advanced the ball forward over the goal line where the play should be immediately dead upon the ball crossing the plane of the goal line.

If it isn't, then at what point can a player release the ball after a catch?

The rule was amended a few years back. A receiver must control the ball all the way thru contact with the ground now. I don't like it, but it's in the rules.

When his knee hit the ground he had obvious control of the ball. Then because no one had touched him yet, he advanced the ball across the goal line. I believe this was a poor interpretation of the rule. Very poor.

This is the new rule about control of the ball recievinga catch.

Item 1. Player Going to the Ground. A player is considered to be going to the ground if he does not remain upright long enough to demonstrate that he is clearly a runner. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

Yup, never could stand it, but got that image from a friend of mine that was a die-hard sports ball fan, MAJOR Cowboys fan, and refuses to even know the score of the games after the disrespect the league has been showing to our nation lately.

That's cool... I look forward to the major influx of folks following e-sports or caber tossing or rugby... REAL sports instead of that silly men in tights stuff... Wink

I would hardly call viewership down 5.7% time for a headstone. I view the brain injury stuff more of a problem for the NFL .

It is because of the disrespect of our flag, country, and vets that I quit watching.  The refs interfering with the game is why I still don't watch.

That's why I quit watching, but the Packers' coach and president saying they supported the players is why I'm gone for good, despite being a huge fan for over 50 years. When at the start of Week 3's game I saw three Packers sitting during the anthem, it was almost like walking in on a cheating spouse-you knew OTHER people's wives did that, but not YOURS  Wink Expounding on that analogy, you don't act like it's all cool if one day your other half decides to stop dating around. I'm done. I can't be the only one, because on the news this morning they said TV viewership is down 9%. Not a huge number, but if my income went down 9% or my taxes went up 9% I wouldn't shrug it off as too small a number to concern me.

I think this rule was clarified several years ago dealing with a ( Megatron ) Calvin Johnson nullified reception.  They put it in in college also.  I was wondering how they would rule that play - it took forever as it use to be once you crossed the plane of the endzone with control it was a touchdown.  However they new rule and it being a catch supersedes.  This was the only game outside of about 3 Lions games I have watched.  Just a crazy last minute to this game ending in an interception.  Around here we hate the Steelers do to the Bengal/Steelers rivalry and extreme chippy play their games bring out.

about the size of your average politician. I don't waste food and I don't waste time watching ungrateful millionaires play a kids game.

And he fulfilled that part of the rule. He caught the ball, possessed it with his knee on the ground (the initial contact with the ground) and then stretched out his arms to advance the ball across the goal line at which point the play is done. Then the ball came out. Touchdown.

This will be the first year I haven't watched an NFL game in my entire life.

The irony is, I've discovered that, I don't miss it.   Never thought that would happen but, I've grown tired of a bunch of overpaid entertainers pushing their social agenda at the expense of their fans and our veterans.   I started the season off with great anticipation, looking forward to watching my team (KC) play.   Watched as some of the Chiefs stood for the Anthem and some didn't.   Turned the television to a different channel.   I tried tuning in to the next few games that I had an interest in.   More of the same conduct.

I won't stand for such disrespect and refuse to actively support such crap by watching it.   This will be the first Super Bowl I've ever missed and to be honest, I doubt I'll miss it (regardless of who's in it).
Those entertainers can kiss my ass.   I've figured out, I don't need their entertainment and they don't need my viewership.   I've also let as many advertisers as possible about how I feel.   Yeah, I know my single voice won't make a difference but, it's a start.

It is not only the behavior of the players, refs and owners that has me feed up, it is the moronic commercials, the tax breaks and ass kissing the NFL teams and owners get from federal, state and local governments, the absurd costs of tickets, parking, memorabilia, refreshments.  I'm sorry, I may not be the wisest investor, but I refuse to waste my hard earned cash on these morons.  I know there are some players that are good people that do a lot of good for their communities, but there are a lot of non-athletes that have fewer resources and sacrifice more to help.

Don't even get me started on the NBA.

To me, it's the new "hitting" rules that have ruined the game (for an old d lineman Wink).....Even Hockey has gotten to the point where defense has no idea if a legal hit is going to be called a penalty or not!?!? tickedoff
Either let them play the games as they was meant to be played and accept that it is DANGEROUS or remove body contact and make the sports co-ed.........Feminists want that anyway....

I agree,  never going ever again to see an NFL game in person (probably college either) since the cost of tickets alone to go is not worth it/justifiied to me.  I have to justify and feel the cost of tickets is not worth the enjoyment I get out of watching in person the football games.  30 bucks would be my limit and not even close, unless I can get them for around that or under.  Over 50 bucks, NO way is any football game worth going to even the super bowl.
