timing belt adjuster noise

Last spring I replaced my timing belts.I made sure not to over tighten the new belts with the adjusters.I have developed a short, loud ,metallic squeal, (definitely up front) .It only does it once in a while,while under full power going up hill. Could this be adjuster pulleys going bad?Anyone have any ideas.

they may just be a tad tight......try bumping them down a smidge

I would recheck, and have also myself,It sounds like it could be vacuum whistle. i dont have any vacuum lines any more (blower) Not even my stock fuel shut off, It has been removed also.Maybe 1 bypass valve.Check your lines may have a crack in one or more.

Do a search for 'slave cylinder'...  Part of the Clutch assembly and pretty easy to access.  I had that issue (any gear, right at 2100 - 2200 rpm).  Lube the slave pin, and all is well.

Could be, just did mine this summer and did have them a bit tight and some of my extra noise went away. Could be a front wheel bearing too or a left rear where the noise reflects off the stuff up front, ie windshield or fairing. Thought for sure mine was the front two years ago. Is the squeal intermittant or steady? You did say short.

[/quote]    Yes it is very short, maybe 3 seconds long, and very intermittent,maybe does it once every ride at just the right rpm,and up a hill.The sound is an ear piercing, metal on metal  grinding squeel. really takes me off guard and then it is gone!

Mines doing the same metalic squeel noice since belt adjustment. Sounds like on old chevy rod knock, can hear it at low speed only.

The spring tension on the pulley assembly is the factory prescribed amount of force to be applied.

Adding a little more tension force, as so many seem to want to do is courting future problems than can end up being very costly.

I understand how difficult it is to accept the fact that Honda may know best but in this instance maybe demurring to the manual is the smartest course of action.

I agree, it could be the clutch slave pin. It can squeal like a stuck pig when dry. If it is the slave pin it will begin to lessen as you slowly disengage the clutch. If you disengage the clutch quickly I tend to think it will stop more quickly then the squeal of an over tightened belt tensioner.
May be worth testing.
If it is the slave pin it's an easy fix.
