Was hoping to take a ride after Christmas we usually head for The Gulf Coast the day after Christmas. Not this year I have a friend dealing with health issues and since he couldn't take the saddle time the rest of us bowed out as well hoping to do some 150 / 200 mile local riding spending a few nights out on the road . The weather is getting colder by the day and not looking any better anytime soon.  Looks like I picked a bad time this year to waste my vacation time I go back Sunday the 7th and fingers crossed for some southern air ( Yankee friends it would be just outstanding if you would shut the door ) .

I'm stuck home watching my sisters 3 kids till the 3rd when they go back to school.  I even tried talking them into a trip to florida in the van. Something wrong with these kids. They didn't want to go.

It ain't us Yankees, it is those dag gone Cannucks.  Wicked blast of Artic air for next 10 days or longer, and for sure no riding for this lad. Just glad I am not in Erie, PA 53 inches in 2 days  Yikes.

To our Canadian Friends.  Could we not just come to some kind of happy medium.  Say in the winter all air blows north from the gulf and in the summer, south from the Arctic.

I've never been in that cold of weather.... -18 is the coldest air my body has ever been in and that was here in Tennessee back in the 80's.

Could be worse! Folks north of me are dealing with cold temps and five feet of snow, and they think they'll see 70 inches of  snow before it's done. We call that a lake ( Erie ) effect snow storm.

Cold temps meet warm moisture = major snow dump tickedoff

Joe,

Like you said, "On second thought..." I lolligaged around this morning, procrastinating and pondering profusely... didn't help. Each time I stuck my head out the door, the biting, wind-driven cold air indicated the time simply wasn't quite right for a departure...

I propped myself against the headboard of the bed in my room, and grabbed the remote... TV never came on... I'd fallen asleep! I got up and checked my laptop again, and... danged if I didn't fall asleep again! Now, anybody has to agree that drowsiness is no condition to fool around with, especially when scooting down the highway on a bike!!!

I walked over to the office and took a room for another night... For the record, I didn't technically wimp-out over the cold... Anyway, that's my story... I think I'll now take a serious nap!

Inches, maybe?

A caption under a photo in the linked article says, "Nearby Redfield had 82.6 inches of snow as of Dec. 15, the most in New York." Very impressive, but nowhere near 28 feet.

Paul,

Van Horn, TX... still... Probably strike out for New Mexico tomorrow... I'll get caught up on my napping thing today, hopefully, and get back out there in time to head-off any cabin fever episode... Have I ever mentioned that I don't miss a regular job?

DDT

Joe,

Been napping since I was a small kid... even had an adventure or two during kindergarten doing that, too! No naps in regular school, however, but I did pick-up the habit again while in the Army! Guys would lie on their footlockers and enjoy a mini-snooze right after lunch, so I tried it myself... took to it right off!

Couldn't nap at work, but late in my career I was busted a couple of times by secretaries walking into my office unannounced... Oh well... Since retirement, however, I've finally locked onto and truly fathomed my talent for mid-day snoozes... I can pretty much rattle the rafters anytime, anywhere!!!

You pick up an hour when you get to new mexico so that means you can go there nap for an hour and you missed nothing !!  Y'all will be energized for whatever strikes your mood, maybe even another nap

Ever notice how you have to watch for wind the day after a front moves thru the area ?

that is nuts, only been in that cold temps once for a few days of ice fishing in devils lake ND.  It was so windy (like 40 mph winds constant) and -20 or more below zero that my eye lashes were freezing shut sitting in our portable ice fishing shack for 3 straight days on the ice entire day catching NO fish since they had lock jaw due to the severe cold front.  We could mark them on bottom, but not get them to bite.  I think we came home with a few dinky walleye is about it NO perch like we came out to do and some muddy tasting backwater pike.

We didn't go Thursday the wind was howling and with the mid 30's temp we called it off... Tomorrow ( Saturday ) is looking somewhat better we plan to hit the steam plant tomorrow . Both Gordon and I have both caught Stripers there at of near 50 lbs. Both are hanging in our house.
