So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: December 31, 2017, 08:02:02 AM »

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a thread about sand blasting, admitted then that I knew very little about the subject.

Took one of my goosenecks to (near) Nashville, TN to have it blasted and painted.   Thanks to a friend who spotted a Face Book ad for a Christmas special on media blasting.   So, I took advantage of the deal.   It was a very good price, I know this because, I have been trying to get this trailer blasted, primered and repainted for a couple of years but, it was always beyond my available $$$.  Another issue was I could never get a vendor to agree to blast and paint the bottom of the trailer.   It's an all metal trailer so, that had to be accomplished.

Three colors were available with the "special", none was what I would have picked but, since that was all that was being offered, I selected the Almond color, kind of an Off White.   Picked it over the Red or Black because, whether it's clean or dirty, it's still gonna look the same.  Off White.

Went back yesterday and retrieved the gooseneck.   The entire trailer was blasted with steel shot peen, blown off of dust and then primer applied, used a two part epoxy primer then came back with a two part epoxy paint.   The trailer looks amazing, can't tell you how impressed I am with the end result, especially considering the price.   The Christmas Special was about 1/3rd of any of the other quotes I received and not one of them would include the belly of the monster.

Kudos to:

Blast Master of TN.

About 40 miles north of Nashville, TN.   I highly recommend them.   They don't just do trailers, I saw pictures of some hot rods and quite a few other projects they have done.

I can't post pics here but, if anyone wants to see the before, during and after pics, just email me and I'll be happy to share them with you.  I still have to reapply the DOT reflective tape and intend to install more LED lights but, she's beautiful.

Actually, the more I look like farmer John, the less DOT and LEOs look at me.   I kind of like it that way.  Wink

What kind of shape was the old DeSoto in, I used to have a green one back in the late 50's/early 60's. I think the only way you could kill it was with a 50 cal.  Grin

John,
As I remember, had to winch it on board, quite a bit of corrosion.   Didn't really take note of it except to take a lot of pictures of it.   My way of covering my butt.   Many of the vehicles I've transported have never been seen by the buyer, only pics the seller emailed to them so, I take pics of the vehicles before I load them and then again once loaded and tied down.    I normally email the pics to the buyer before I leave.   That way there are no problems when I arrive and someone saying that dent or scratch wasn't there.   If I see a problem, I take a picture and let the destination/buyer know before I depart.

That particular car was purchased by a guy in NJ who wanted the "Supposedly Perfect" bumpers and other parts.     I wasn't privy to the whole conversation but, I do know the buyer and seller had a talk before I left and the price was changed after I sent the buyer the pics.   Luckily, I didn't have to go far for the pickup.   That haul almost didn't happen.

Just transported a 62 Ford Galaxy from Milwaukee to KY for a gent, a very nice unrestored car.   The buyer is making it into a Mayberry RFD/Barney Fife police car.   Drove on and off the trailer.   Some of the vehicle I haul, I'd love to keep, some of them, I have no idea why anyone would ask me to haul them.   To each their own.....

Nice looking job on your trailer!!! Looks like those folks really are pros... That Desoto likes interesting, too. I've always wanted a vintage car... I've just never been able to justify actually getting one... oh well...

Very nice Ron.  Remember 2 years back you wanting advice on this project.  Seemed you found your way quite nicely and not a terrible long ways for you to go.  With that color you will look like none of the others.  Hey - and it will match the winter salt.  1/3 price - good for you and always great to save a bunch and get a great job to boot.

Bruce, just think....if we had kept only one of the oldies we drove way back when, we could make a fortune. It's kinda strange.....a vintage vehicle is worth a bunch of money, but now that some of us are vintage we're not worth nearly as much as the vintage vehicle.

Not only is it a great looking job on the trailer that is a pretty sturdy trailer.  cooldude

I do have one take away,  be careful if that deck gets wet with any water, coolant or oil I would imagine its going to be one slippery slope.

Thanks and you’re correct about the oil.

But I guess i’m used to dealing with it, I apply used motor oil to the floor of my deck over oak floored Trailer also.   Makes that wood last about three times as long.
