Was anyone else able to get out and ride yesterday?

Temps were finally in my riding range (40-45), sun was out, no ice on the roads.   My Valk didn't want to start at first, something about ignoring her since before Thanksgiving.  Anyway convinced her that it would be fun.  So after 4 tries she fired up.   We went for over an hour ride, only 60 miles though.  It was a good ride, mostly secondary county roads.   No pic's as it hard to open up several layers of  clothing to get to phone.   2funny

This is the First time I have been able to ride on the  01/01 of any year I have lived in Northern CA or Southern OR.   Usually we have ice on the roads, or its really cold out.  It was great to be able to do so this year.

Rode about 5 miles to work and back.   Took longer to suit up than it did to get there.   Was single digits on the mercury tube.  No idea on wind chill but..............  Well, let's just say I only did it so I could still claim to ride on January 1 every year I've had the fat gal.

It's slightly colder today but, she's stay'n inside where it's warmer.   Me, still have to work today and tomorrow.   Then I'm off till the next Monday.

Ditto - I don't voluntarily ride when the outside temp is below 40F any more. I had enough of freezing my tail off when I was younger....

Embarrassed I feel so inadequate. I switched out of mesh a week ago. It is only 40-42 in the morning.  Smiley

While there are Two-count em 2-operable Valkyries in my Brothers shop the temps here have started out in the minus column and risen All the way to single digits!  Lips Sealed And though the roads are dry they all look sorta grayish from very heavy salt applications. Even if/when it warms up due to the salt-well could be a bit fer the first ride here bouts in 2018. And while in the teens and 20s in Missouri they-Missouri-git carried away with the deicing also. RIDE SAFE.

A buddy and I got in about 200 miles, rode from 4000 ft to 9000 in elevation, no snow or moisture to be found, started out at about 35 degrees and it mostly stayed in the mid 40's, it was a nice day for a ride.

Took about an hour to ride 30 or so miles. Temp readout was 30 degrees at 35mph. I was cold.

Livin' Better Side of The Great Divide

Closed out 2017 with a short hour's ride on December 29th in the late afternoon with the thermometer hovering around 50 degrees in beautiful western Colorado.  Had a friend head down south over the past two weeks and he reports hardly any snow except on the high peaks in the San Juans with practically none in the valleys.
We have had no snow except for a trace (a "skiff") duration of about twenty minutes some ten days ago.
Time to bring out the Ute native medicine men for a ceremony in conjunction with a more scientific/modern method of firing up the cloud seeding generators (except there aren't any clouds!).  Snow is the only water we get in these parts; that is what supplies our agriculture and livestock come spring and summer.
It's a La Nina year and the jet stream may be deflected from the Great Divide's southwestern section of our state until late winter or early spring.

A simple conclusion is that we need moisture in a big way for the lower and upper atmospheres to catch up.  Pretty sparce according to this map.

https://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/ftpref/states/co/snow/state/daily/co_update_snow.pdf

The sole positive takeaway from this is that we are still rolling with a full (union) suit and winter gloves; good for the head and the heart.
Cheers for 2018.
