Has anyone modded the Interstate fairing for aftermarket speakers other than the Polk speaker. I am talking about something larger and louder. Maybe put some sound deading material inside as well. I am in the middle of taking mine apart and thought it would be a good time to do something like this

I bought a pillow from Wally World $3 and used the stuffing in my front speaker housing, not too much so as to touch the speakers. To me it sounds better, I purchased pioneer 4 ohm speakers for the fairing. I got the idea from doing it to my TJ's over head speaker encloser.

How did you fit the speakers in the Fairing? Photos?

It was a 1 for 1 replacement of the original speaker. In simple terms remove the speaker cover and remove the speaker box. Change out the speakers and reassemble.

Do you have a model number of the speakers you used

I'm skeered to mess with it.  I bought "better" speakers for my old Electraglide and they were no better, at all.  If I'm going to mess with the speakers in the IS I need to be sure it will pay off.  Otherwise I'm leaving it alone.

Put the Polks in. They are way better than stock.

I was looking to put something larger in the fairing.... there is room, but the main problem it the clearance between the fairing and the tank at full lock... the fairing covers get like 1/2 inch from the tank, so it is a near thing. I was trying to see if I could find another set of fairing inner covers to modify, but they are not cheap in most cases even from salvage..... so its on the back burner, but with he right speaker I think it could be done...

But I did upgrade to the Polks and have lived with them and the standard system for 6 years now..LOL

I have found using my iPhone for music allows for greater volume overall and at speed.. enough to enjoy most music at speed.... Speed being 80+mph

One thing to remember is that the quality of the recording can have a lot to do with ultimate volume...

I have a lot of older "analog" CDs that I burned into my iTunes.. the older recordings are much quieter than new purchased iTunes music or newer "Digital" or remastered CDs.....

Just making sure I had updated recordings on my playlists made a big difference... on the bike and in home and car......
