Since we're beating the dead horse of politics lately... thought it might be interesting to see where some of us who are willing to share really stand... The political compass test takes about 10 minutes, and is anonymous. It can be taken here: https://www.politicalcompass.org/testIf ya' feel like sharing, would be interesting to me at least to see where we fall... As of tonight (I'll admit, I shift with time) here's where I stand: (I don't fully agree with the results, I think I'm more libertarian/classically liberal than it lists, but whatevs) (Once you have your results, in Chrome you can right click the chart and select "Copy Image Address" then come here and hit the Insert Image link and paste into that.)

Darn near dead center as I have always believed but some of those questions didn't make much sense and I only had a few strongly agree or disagree. Kind of surprised about the libertarian leaning as I consider a strong central government a necessity.

Some questions don't have a "agree or disagree" answer in my opinion but I chose the most logical to me. Other questions seem to play language tricks that may skew results. I am sort of surprised I am not further right considering my general economic views of how poorly the government handles money.

1.13 to the right -1.38 Libertarian
Roughly one unit above and slightly to the right of Britman.
Pretty much dead centre. I expected slightly more right and more Libertarian.

Kind of surprised about the libertarian leaning as I consider a strong central government a necessity. Similar results for me, almost dead center. Even more so than Hacked Valk's above. Ironically, the questions force the responder to go left or right and doesn't allow for an answer that does not force you to take a stand on an issue whether you have an issue or not. Damn near dead center for me. Who'd have thunk it................. Rams

OK, I'll bite...a political-themed post that is straight up and actually interesting. I enjoy doing polls such as this (any topic...not just politics) as I like to see how accurately they describe who I am or what I'm about. In this case, maybe not 100% accurate as I consider myself a bit Right of centre and have certainly always voted that way. This particular poll seems to focus a bit too much on certain social/religious stances in determining where you sit on the Left/Right line, which in my opinion at least, is misleading. Good post though, interesting topic of discussion

IMHO, the questions were written with an agenda. I have a feeling a lot of right wingers scored more to the left than would be accurate, because of the wording of the questions.

See the wording of several questions that seemed designed to allow only one answer unless one is a member of some racial superiority group.

I agree with F6Gal (Connie?). A few too many of the questions had that when did you stop beating your wife flavor to them. Also, it seemed to set up corporations as the bad guys and people as the good guys. I was not going to spend the time to game the test that I would if my results really counted. I have gamed such tests and the MMPI* before, when people were going to look at them (with my name on them). I just blasted through. And I generally only agree or disagree, saving strongly for only a few answers (which very probably puts you nearer the center). Pretty close to you Serkman. (I also would put me more right and more libertarian than my score) *Like when the MMPI asks you if you sometimes get mad enough you could just kill someone. I don't care what your real answer is, the right answer is strongly disagree, when they are considering your national security clearance.

Correct. I had a class long ago back in college where the professor would have us develop surveys and ask questions that led the person being question the desired direction. Sometimes it was the question, other times it was the limited responses that boxed in the person responding. While this survey indicated myself and apparently several others to be closer to center or to the left, our voting records would indicate otherwise. Truthfully (IMHO) it's a total BS survey and proves little if anything. Rams

Indeed. I figured that out after the first 2 questions and did not continue. Likewise. The survey, like most, is only useful to those who needed a certain result, and those who hopefully learn that any political poll or survey's results have a good chance of bias, because somebody's paying for them. Bonus question; Obama's Presidency was; 1)Amazing 2)Stupendous 3)Really good 4)Barely better than any other

Really an example of a crappy survey. I went back and took the survey again and only answered the questions with the most extreme responses. It's almost funny and yet sad. Came up with almost the identical positioning within the graph as previously. Almost dead center. Truly a BS survey.....................

Like others stated, I did find some of the questions leading and really didn't give me the option to answer it the way I believed which may have skewed some of my results. (Not all statements can be addressed by simply agree or disagree.)

Of course this survey is only a specific group's study in how people are aligned politically and socially. All polls, questionnaires, etc are... and in most cases are commissioned to elicit a specific outcome in line with that group's preferred outlook. True readings on how people see themselves can only be determined by how they actually live their day to day lives (actions speak louder than words) so these types of things don't even come close in that respect. What this post and poll did though in my opinion at least, is engage members here in a discussion on the topic in a different (better) manner than has been done in some previous political posts. Whether or not that was Serk's intent (probably, I'm guessing) that's what it's done, so not a bad thing.

Yes, crappy in the sense of not being truly objective, and more likely it is skewed in how it is scored, ie weighting of answers relative to score, which we simply cannot know. I also went back and took it again (yesterday) and changed all my answers from only agree or disagree (most of them) to strongly agree or disagree (more extreme answers), and it only made me a hair more libertarian and no more right wing. As Shakespeare wrote, something is rotten in Denmark.Just based on years of give and take between active member contributors (but not really knowing them), their tests results are consistently too far left, and too centered up. Just like mine, who I know somewhat better. Still, this was an interesting exercise.

Not so. One would have to be completely ignorant to believe that genetic inheritance (family expands to ethnic and race) is not directly related to "qualities". The question was poorly worded. The so called "qualities" are many and any group can be, on the average, stronger in one and weaker in others. Whether one race (or family) is better suited than another depends entirely upon which "qualities" are applied to the task at hand. A close minded racist would be one who believes it is okay to treat a certain race or races as inferior or with less respect when being dealt with as human beings.

I agree willow, I actually think that the physical traits of certain races evolved as any animal would, according to environment... To argue that people of African decent are not better endurance athletes due to their genetics is crazy to me. The human animal has evolved in many environments and those environments have caused traits in those races. "Social" traits on the other hand, are nurture over nature in almost every case. Pigeon holing these "answers" is the biggest problem.

I think that many of the questions are very carefully worded to bring out the answer they are looking for. The outcome of my 'test' surprised me.
This question, as an example, is worded so that the true question may not be obvious.
"There are no savage and civilised peoples; there are only different cultures."
Are they asking if we view other cultures as savage and civilized or if other cultures view themselves as savage or civilized? What we may view as savage could be normal behavior within that culture. Are we to make a judgement on other people?
Also, the words: ‘globalisation’ ‘penalise’ ‘civilised’ were misspelled. (Their spelling)
