1st Place Street Kings National Cruiser Class

Phoenix

« on: January 25, 2018, 08:11:03 AM »

Last weekend the fiancee and I took the truck to Las Vegas to finalize arrangements and put a deposit down for the chapel at Golden Nugget casino, yep, we're going to get married. We were there for just the one day and night. The next day and night was to be spent in Williams Arizona (100% chance of snow) We headed out about 10:00AM and just as we were leaving Henderson Nevada, I seen the the Henderson police  police on a bike (I think a BMW but not sure) shooting radar. You guessed it, i'm doing 66 in a 45, DAMN!  Undecided He pulls me over and comes to the passenger window which I had rolled down already. He said he had me on lazer doing 66 in a 45, I said in amazement 'No way'  Roll Eyes He then asked for the usual, which I had and handed it over to him. As he was back at his bike, i'm thinking of how much this ticket will be. He came back a few minutes later and said 'I have good news and bad news, which do you want first?' I said give me the bad news first. He said 'You were speeding' OK, so what's the good news? I'm letting you off with a warning.  Grin  I said 'Thanks alot officer' and he said 'Slow it down, speed is 45 here and 35 up the road. Speed does not get to 65 till your in that other state' meaning Arizona. WHEW!  cooldude It wasn't till an hour later we pulled over for some gas and I went to the rest room when I seen in the mirror, I was wearing my Police Unity shirt that had a police badge and black ribbon over the badge stenciled on it. I wonder if that shirt had anything to do with the warning?  Wink

Did you tell him you were going to get married? Maybe he felt pity? (I'm real brave since my fiancé doesn't stop in here.)

I've noticed my ratio of warnings to tickets has moved decidedly positive onto the warnings side ever since I got my concealed carry license...

(It doesn't hurt I'm sure that in Texas it's harder to get your CHL than to become an on duty peace officer. We have on duty cops that have been denied their CHL because the requirements are more stringent.)

My CHL instructor mentioned that during the class that the cops are more lenient if you have a CHL.

Unfortunately I got stopped speeding before I sent off for my CHL after I took the class. Not sure if it would've helped though, I was caught doing 87 in a 70.
The cop, nor the Judge, believed me when I told them I was going that fast for a safety reason.

The cop did mention that the 87 was more than 10% over so he's going to issue me a ticket.
I'm not positive but I took that to mean they probably allow up to 10% over the posted limit before they stop you.

I've had about a 3:1 ratio of warnings to tickets since getting my CHL. (*Knocking furiously on wood*)

The most impressive was just a few months after I got my license, I was being stupid and racing an idiot in a Mustang (But I repeat myself) on a surface street, doing around 90 when he nailed me.
(This was in my MR2, not on the Valk.)

And I got a warning outta it...

I was one of those guys.   police  I stopped all kinds of speeders in my 28 yrs but 2 come to mind. #1. 97 mph in a residential 35 mph speed / school zone, and #2. 114 mph in a 55 mph zone.  Those two got no break, but they each got a nice ride in a police car.

If the excuse was a good one, and the violation minimal, I'd let people off with a warning. A couple of my favorites were: "my wife's gonna get pregnant and I wanna be there" and "my girlfriends husband is trying to catch me". "Isn't this "speed week"?

Be an ass and you would get my autograph. The ol, "what's the matter, haven't made your quota yet"?  That was one of those automatics.

Heh (TMI WARNING!)

One of the fun side effects of doing IVF (Test tube babies), had I gotten pulled over on my way to the hospital for one of the procedures I legit could have used that excuse.

Almost wish I'd gotten pulled over and thought to use it now!

Don't know about CHL having effect, but. Fayetteville Ga., Atlanta burb. Ga. 85 widens for a brief pass lane. Three cars in front, all stay in left lane. Pick off one get behind other two. See I have enough road left, drop her to third, get beside lead car, glance to my left, big black numbers on the trunk. UH-Oh, glance at speedo, 97, 55 zone. All of this milli seconds. Can I make right turn, no. Touch white shoulder line as I pull in front. Quater mile, blue lights. Sitting there on side stand with licence in hand, two deputies one on each side. " know why we stopped you, yes sir." " Didn't mind you passing us but when you touched the white line have to pull you to check for DUI. One takes licence to car, one on right knows what I am riding starts conversation. Good looking, what year model, what I paid for her. Other one comes back, looks at partner and says "vet".  " be careful " , I say "thank you " and they leave. Whew!!!!!
