This last summer Bonnie and I went to the Canadian Rockies

While in Jasper, a town at the top of the Icefields Parkway I noticed this BMW that was kind of beat up. What was even more amazing was the Argentina plates

I made Bonnie  wait while I checked out the bike and a few moments later along came Carlos

He had ridden first south the Ushaia (sp?) the tip of south america then up thru Chile and all the way to the arctic circle.  His english was not so great and my spanish also pretty bad but we had a great conversation.  He had lots of stuff broken off the bike due to falling  Shocked  but a big smile.  I showed him on a map some stuff that he wanted to see and we said goodbye

Occasionally I wonder if he made it home. Like DDT he was retired. And he was living his dream.  Lucky bastard indeed.

Note the kevlar pants and bigass gas can   Just before I got the police bike I had test drove a gs that belonged to an 80 yr old man who rode it every year to alaska to see his grandkids.  lol  Have to admit those GS bikes take a lickin.

Oss , we just got back from south America. We were in Ushuaia. We went to Argentina for new years and did a cruise around south America , the Falkland Islands and into Chile. Tierra del Fuego National Park had a post office that was the Southern most post office. I would love to get out and ride like he  and Bruce.

Oss,

Like with you, one of the best aspects of our travels is the characters we meet along the way! That's an amazing tale, and one very much worth telling... thanks for sharing!!!

When I was in Alaska I ran into a group on Harleys from Colombia. They had their bikes shipped to Florida and were riding to Prudhoe bay. Then riding all the way through Mexico and central America back to Colombia. I should have taken their picture because they were brave souls to do that on Harley's.

Many years ago I was following Simon Milward on his "Millenium Ride" around the world...
It was funny, I didn't realize he was near me at the time, was at the Dallas motorcycle show, came around a corner and there he was!

This was his route, both planned and the part he managed to accomplish:

Sadly, he was killed in a motorcycle crash in Mali, West Africa in March of 2005.

If you're interested in seeing some of his adventures, the web site for his trip is still available here:

Another impressive rider and ride, it's been posted here before, but the Japanese man who rode a Valkyrie all around the world.

Things you never thought you'd see, like a Valkyrie at the base of Mt. Everest...

A Valkyrie in Iran...

And more places I can only dream of going.....

I've mentioned before, Sgt Marty and his KLR ride all the way North, then all the way South.  He did a ride report while enroute.  Great read.  http://www.errant-ronin.com/PrudhoeBayUshuaia.htm

Impressive rides indeed.
But I've already seen a bunch of this rock we call home.    No desire to go back to most of those places.   I'll stick with trying to see as much of this continent as I'm able to see.   I find all the adventure I want or need doing that at this point in my life.     Best wishes for those with such drive and desire though.
