Sadly no... The MKIV came out right after I completed my MKII/MKIII collection of one for everyone (Except mommy, who doesn't like going shooting.)

Although I've come VERY close to picking one up just to have one that I actually clean as often as I should and just make it my workhorse plinker...

(The MKII on top is mine, blue one is Blake's, silver is Kali's, red is Kaelynn's and green is Brian Jr's.)

FWIW, after one attempt, I never took my Mk II down once in about 12 years, and it got shot a lot. I did clean it as well as possible without take down,  and I cannot remember ever having a single problem.  When the Browning Buckmark came out, I traded it away.

This is the first time I ever admitted this, in public.

I can do the MKII/MKIII tear down, I've done it a few times, just not something I enjoy, and I generally DO enjoy cleaning my guns. Just not those.

(I've got a Rossi Model 92 lever action in .44 magnum that I gave up on disassembling, that one just confused me, and I usually disassemble and reassemble all new acquisitions before they're fired.)

I do douse the Ruger's inside and out with CLP and scrub 'em as well as I can from the outside, just hate going inside of those.

(I also took the MKIII's apart and did the no magazine safety removal hack, much smoother action without that garbage in there mucking things up!)

I have the same Rossi 92. I have never taken it apart so i can't help with that. I usually clean all my guns twice a year if they need it or not. It is about that time again and maybe this time i'll learn how to take apart the  buckmark and the rossi.

Oh come on Serk they are not that hard to diassemble. Now putting them back together is another story. Just kidding. I have done it enough times it's not that big a deal to me.I have figured if I get it back together and I can't pull the bolt back more the a half inch or so I did it wrong. Back apart it goes. I have two MarkIIs and four others in my family that I take care of.

I have that exact one. Very fun gun. Love the Rugers for target and plinking. Popped a red-dot on top of it just for added fun.

I CAN do it, I just don't enjoy doing it, and I normally DO enjoy cleaning and maintaining my guns. Anything that you've gotta hold it upside down at a specific angle while jiggling it at precisely 43 degrees with a rotational variable between .43 and .47 while holding your tongue out at 23 degrees to the right of center and hopping on one leg to get it back together just... I don't do as often as I should... Wink

Serk, you have to teach your kids to SHARE....... Grin

Being triplets+1 they already have to share a LOT, and being their "first pistols" I wanted them to have individual ones that could be passed on to them personally when they are old enough.

Dangit! I went to the gun show today, with no intention of buying anything...

Walking by I heard a pistol call out "Pssst, hey Serk! Howdy there! You wanna take me home. You NEED to take me home!"

Looked down, and saw this looking up at me with those puppy dog eyes they get:

Ruger MKIV Stainless Steel Target Model with a threaded barrel.

It's a lot heavier than the 22/45 LITE models but I really... REALLY like it!

Oh, and it seems a Radical Firearms 50 Beowulf upper also followed me home, as well as a lower parts kit. Time to dig up one of my spare lowers and make it into a complete rifle, in case a herd of rampaging dinosaurs attacks my neighborhood.

(But don't tell the spousal unit, please! Wink )

(Neither are actual pics of my new toys, but look just like 'em)

LOL!!!!! Wish that worked in real life, although I'd do IDDQD first, just to be safe... Wink

Got my new BFG9000, er, Beowulf 50 put together. Only have Magpul MBUS sites on it for now but that'll do for function testing at least. Hope to get out to the land soon and try it out!

This thing really is a beast, for size comparison left to right a .223(5.56) cartridge, a S&W 500 Magnum, and a 50 Beowulf:

...so it seems beyond the cost, another challenge with the 50 Beowulf is even finding a store that carries the ammo... Academy doesn't, Bass Pro Shops doesn't. On a whim I made the 30 minute drive up to Cabela's today, and they do... $120 later I've got 80 rounds of ammo now...

...now I need to order reloading dies so I can afford to shoot this beast!

Weather permitting, I'll be going out to my land tomorrow to try her out...

Range report:

The 50 Beowulf is an absolute BEAST.

Shot my AR500 plate gong at 75 yards, it spun the gong around and sheared one of the metal chain links that held the gong. (Didn't dent the gong though, that AR500 is tough stuff.)

Shot my hanger gongs and they spun in circles multiple times. A 308 makes them rock back and forth a bit, but not spin a full rotation. Lifted the whole target stand up into the air.

Ten shots.

I shot ten shots, I'm usually not terribly recoil averse but OUCH. Ten shots and a few hours ago, huge bruise on my shoulder and my arm hurts.

Yeah, this thing's a BEAST.

Also shot the Ruger MKIV Target. It's a Ruger. It shoots every time I pull the trigger, and puts little .22" holes where I'm wanting it to, what more can i say?

Oh yeah, and I cleaned it when I got home. Was an absolute JOY to clean that gun. Love that thing!

Took my father in law and one of the triplets (Brian Jr.) too, got to witness some nice grandpa/grandson experiences as we both were coaching Brian through shooting both his rifle and his handgun.

The triplets have all shot before, but this was the first time he really paid attention, took his time, aimed, and to see his face light up when he hit one of the reactive targets was pure magic!

Brian Jr. didn't shoot anything bigger than a .22, but he kind sorta helped Grandpa shoot his .38 snubbie:

Grandpa ran a few magazines through his Tavor as well (Being a convert to the tribe he felt obligated to get a Tavor... That and my glowing recommendations of the gun! Smiley )

Overall a grand day out at our land. Will be a lot better when my arm stops aching!

...and this I'll defend.

They make shoulder pads you know.

I took some heat for mine (hey you pussy), but my shoulder was thanking me.  Sticks and stones.  Not a .50 Beowulf, but way more than 10 shots.

Apparently, your clan gets to keep all it's hair.   Grin

Yeah, although a Limb Saver might look funny on an M4 style collapsible stock.  I didn't think of using a pad because normally recoil just doesn't bother me that much. (Although I do miss the 100 pounds I've lost at some times, it does hurt a little more with much less padding in place.

And that's my father in law, not my dad, but other than the fact that my dad thinks he's still in the Air Force and has his hair cut to regulation, he does at least still have most of it.

My Dad had a flat top haircut from the time I was born until I was 18. He was in the Air Force. Then he went hippie and had a regular haircut for a couple years. Went back to his flat top till the day he died.

Got one for each of the kids, in "their" colors. Kali got hers when she was 4ish, was at a gun shop with me, she saw it on the shelf, and asked the employee "Mister sir, can I see that pink one?"
The clerk looked to me, I told him it was okay, she knows the basics of firearm safety.

He handed it down to her, she looked it over, make all the motions that she'd seen daddy do (Shouldering it, looking down the sights (Being conscientious of making sure it was pointing in a safe direction of course.)

"I LIKE it! Does it come in Hello Kitty?"

So yeah, I bought it for her.

When I found out we were having triplets, and learned their genders, I started picking up Crickett's for each of them as well. The triplets all "owned" their own rifles by 14 weeks gestation.

I spent more money getting the barrels threaded on them then I paid for the rifles themselves, but it was worth it so I can safely teach the kiddos to shoot and they can hear and follow my instructions without hearing protection getting in the way.

I got Jada a pink "mossy oak" camo version. She had a blast shooting at two inch stationary clay pigeons. She loved it when they exploded. Paper is OK but reactive targets are much more fun. When she outgrows that one I will get her a 1022 and let her younger brother shoot the cricket.

Yup, paper is for zeroing your sights or optics. Reactive targets are the way to go!

I've got several AR500 plates at my range, some old beer kegs (Helps to have a friend that manages a liquor warehouse), I also frequently get a few cases of the cheapest generic canned diet cola I can find (Diet 'cause I don't want the ants to get diabetes!), shake the cane up and line 'em up for targets.

Another fun inexpensive reactive target is to buy a bunch of balloons, blow 'em up and tie 'em on your target stands.

I never cared about my targets moving all that much (or exploding), but standing up with the Garand and ringing the gong was fun at 100 and 200.  The plates move some, but the clang was the fun part.
 Pow... ding.  Pow... dong.

I still have a steel target with 4 hanging spinners under my stair well,  but it has not been used since my CA days.
