Last October at Macs Veterans day ride, I developed a clunkin noise coming from rear of bike. After several of the guys listened and rode my bike, it was decided that more than likely the Lt rear bearing was giving up. I rode her home, and put her up in my shop for the eventual rear end maintenance and bearing upgrade.  So here I set, rear end torn down, waiting on more parts, it's always more parts, or the correct more parts, or the parts that got lost by UPS and waiting for 10 days before they admit they can't find them after 21 days of getting no parts....and on and on, Geeez, what a pain.  So, OK, the forks need new seals, so I will just rebuild those until the parts arrive for the rear end. LOL. Then after waiting on parts for the forks, the weather gets so dang cold, I ain't working in my shop, and I even have heat, but not that much heat.  I say all that to say this, I sure miss my little buddy Mac living in Cumberland Furnace. It was always so good to ride over there and he would guide me through maintenance on the girl, and it only took a couple hours of work, usually including changing a tire out. So I have been dinking with this bike since December 1st and all I've got is parts all over my shop, waiting for the parts to finish up the maintenance.  If all goes well, the last part will be here today for the rear end.  A tool I need will be here in 3 days I need for the forks.  I just hope all the pieces are still where I put them Cheesy so I don't go having to order more parts crazy2   Can anybody feel my pain???

Jimmy,

A sad tale indeed... I can sorta feel your pain, as I've spent many days over the years waiting on parts or other items, while pinning to be back on the road. On the other hand, I too miss Mac, but I've never lived very close to him... and I've never had him attempt to supervise any work I might undertake! He's way to intelligent to ever allow me to pick up a wrench!!!

P.S. This too shall pass, my friend... see ya out yonder... soon I hope.

Yes. I don't have a decent workshop. Whenever I need a
particular wrench (or whatever), it's over at the barn, or in the house,
or in the feed shed. My core tools, of course, are always in
the tool box, but I can't count the jobs that have taken
twice as long as they should have because I had to search
all over for what I needed.

News flash, part is sitting down at the shop where I got a friend to order for me. Gonna cost me 60 cents more than I could have got it for on line ,  in only 3 days, minus the shipping costs!!! Duh, guess where I'm going to order my parts from now on?  Hmmmm, think I'l make a list of parts I need before I go down there.....  I'm just happy to know I'm not the only one out there that goes through this ridiculous dance Smiley

That is why I have a whole room in my house, floor to ceiling of parts.   I could probably build two Valks from scratch from my "stash."

Got tired of either parts being out-of-stock, shipping fiasco's, receiving a part that was pre-fubar'd, etc.

I also buy up OEM parts, tires, filters, oil, etc. when they are on sale and keep several in stock.

Gig: Yep, I need a Mexico Beach get away with supervisors
Punisher: Oh to be young and have a good paying job, those were the days Grin Now I know who to call
DDT: Thanks bud!!
Old: yep, been to long on the old lift!
Mike, hubcap  yeah, my chasing tools usually involves running down my son and getting the tool he borrowed.   ALTHOUGH, last night, he had a bunch of wrenches of all sizes he gave me. He said, "these are duplicates I had, here is your tools back".  Man, I mean like there must have been 25 wrenches he gave me, many of them were SnapOn tools too. Jackpot!!

No one can get in my garage, it's locked. Well, if they break in yes. Combination doors and double locks on overheads. My son used to be terrible about putting tools back where he got them. It seemed as though whenever I couldn't find something he wasn't home. I spent more time finding tools then I did using them. I don't borrow tools or loan them. And now with my garage locked they don't walk off.

I don't like to put things off because in about a couple of days I start to double guess what I've done. When parts don't show that just complates everything.

Aww Mac, where are you pard.   I know where you are,LOL.   Actually, things are coming together now. Putting the rear end back together, forks within the next few days. I'll be ready Freddy soon.  It sure has been a learning experience. I've read more manuals and more wrenching posts than I can believe.  I have learned one thing, Honda sure leaves a lot of information out of their manual. thank goodness for the VRCC tech folks. Lots of good info from guys that are good wrenchers.  I lean on that a lot.  Course, if you were here helping me Mac, we'd be done in a day or two..... cooldude  But alas, it has been a great learning experience.  When I come down to Alabama to see you, we may do another once over if I have any minor problems.  Catch ya soon pard. cooldude cooldude
