Got called a stupid racist the other day...

 The other day on face book I responded to one of the few liberal friends I have on his Trump bashing thread. He proceed to say that "anyone who voted for Trump is stupid and a racist". When I called him on it and asked him if he thought I was a racist he responded by unfriending me. No biggie because after that I was going to do the same. A few days before I unfriended one of my cousin from NJ because he called me a derogatory name hinged towards my Midwest upbringing on a similar Trump bashing thread.

 It seams to me you just can't be a conservative/republican today without being called stupid,homophobe or a racist because your views differ from others on the left side. I have been guilty of it on this board and for that I am sorry. But when you are constantly called names by others you have a tendency to do the same.

 I am not racist by any means. In fact I have a mutual friend with the guy who unfriended me. A cool black guy named Craig I used to work with. He obviously didn't think of that when he called me that. I don't think he thought at all.

Had someone who I thought was a "real" friend, not just an online friend; we'd gone shooting together, we'd broken bread together, helped each other on projects together, etc.

When I put my "Impeach Obama" sticker on my cars and bikes he declared he had to cut me out of his life because I'm obviously a racist Nazi.  

I actually try to seek out those I disagree with as friends and acquaintance to broaden my thinking and to help me challenge my own beliefs and thoughts, but it's getting tougher; liberals are statistically more likely to unfriend someone they disagree with politically (Online and in real life) than conservatives are. Ironic the supposedly open minded ones aren't so open minded when anyone disagrees with them.

Kinda why I like Mr. Head. Although on many things he couldn't be more wrong, at least he's willing to (mostly, usually) politely discuss things he's wrong about.

I was sort of worried about that myself, but I had Impeach Obama on my Valk and all my cars for the entire 8 years of His tyranny, then had Hillary for Prison next to it for the last year running up to the last election, and had no issues. Maybe the "NRA Benefactor Life Member" stickers next to 'em helped, I dunno.

I DID have LOTS of people come up to me and insist on shaking my hand, thanking me for saying what needs to be said though.

I do like the attitude on a t-shirt approach as well, I have several I regularly rotate through, some of my favorites:

IMHO if someone "unfriends" you (In the online sense or the literal meatspace sense) over a polite difference of opinion, they were never your friend in the first place.

And that is what this guy Nick did every time. If he posted some Trump bashing stuff and I responded he would either delete my post or the entire thread. He even said once he would delete the thread if pro Trump comments contiued.  It's was OK for him to voice his views but if you dare challenge him he took his ball and went home. My NJ cousin made a comment years ago saying hunters need to be shot. My brother unfriended him then, I should have too. I talked to my other cousin, his brother who is conservative the other day. He told me that his brother has gone full liberal. I don't care. I don't need "friends" like that..

I don't think I did and if I did it was because he called me a racist when I posted a joke,,, that's right ,  a joke. But I do not think I told him to leave. I may have unintentionally invited him to find his happiness elsewhere if he was unhappy here.

I believe discussion of differing opinions is a great forum for learning....just as long as the participants stick to the topic and refuse to make personal remarks.  Over the last few decades it has gotten steadily more difficult to find such participants.  I think the bad habits of throwing insults and inciting anger have overtaken thoughtful debate.  Bad habits and self righteousness have become epidemic. 

I want people to like me.  However, I also believe that what others think of me is really not my concern.  If I am confident that I am doing what is right and reasonable, then it does not really matter what others think, say, or do.

Since Trump is now up I have had =  believe it or not, two people one white and one black make a negative comment.  Without exception I state this is the POTUS and his face is up till he is not the President  Its a respect thing, like I keep the Declaration of Independence up and the Signing of the Constitution pic up and Kennedy's Inaugural Address up

The proper way for a politician to respond to a single court decision is to keep his mouth shut, especially the PM or any cabinet minister.  Anything else is to undermine the justice system.  Personally, I think the jury's verdict was wrong.  The proper response to a wrong verdict is for the crown or defense to appeal to the next higher court.
