I haven't said anything because its been a disease with no symptoms, no meds, no treatment.  I would have been happy to have it stay that way.  Fate would not allow.  So I go in for my normal blood test anxiously waiting to see how things are and to ask about a strange lump in my abdomen.

Well got both answers and neither are good.

I have whats called CLL.  Chronic lymphocytic Leukemia.  I know it sounds horrible, well it can be but usually just irritating.

So the CLL changes lymphocyte cells makes them weird.  these are white cells, lymph nodes and spleen.  They are all in one family I guess.  Mine are like a Mafia family lately.  My spleen has decided to murder millions of platelets just for fun.  Platelets are what keeps your blood thick enough to actually stay in your veins and not leak out all over the place.  I got down to almost zero of these things and blood started leaking out of the capillaries.  Luckily I didn't get the possible brain bleed YIKES!!  you can die from that one................

So, yesterday I had to get a platelet transfusion and medication to try to halt the illegal activity of the spleen.  If the meds don't work I'll  have to have surgery to remove the spleen.

Anyway, no riding for a little while except minimum to keep the bikes running.  one blunt force trauma and there could be unstoppable internal bleeding.

Pray this medicine works, and Ill be back riding for springtime.  angel

Wishing you a complete remission.

My wife had a similar platelet issue, called ITP. Her count would drop into the single digits and rarely rose above the teens for more than a couple of weeks.
Splenectomy cured her, knock on wood- it’ll be 2 yrs in June.
Spent $44k out of pocket until the splenectomy, trying all the treatments.

I’ll pray for you (too).

Wow Jeff, hoping that you get the correct treatment and soon, does sound like there are options and fixes. Take it easy and no matter how loud the bikes call, this is the time to chill out.   Sherry and I decided to do a trip over the pond we can't afford as the more we hear news like this the more feel we need to do it while we can.  Get better so you can do another run to a Florida Valk party, we would love to have you again.

Prayers to you Jeff, and your recovery.

With a low platelet count, I've heard that you feel cold (all the time).

How have you been feeling? Living in Florida it's a little warmer than here on the 49th Parallel, I'm wondering if it's the same, nothing to do with the heat, but only your perception of it.

The Lord is actually healing me at this time by dissolving an intracranial benign schwannoma tumor I have. with His actually touching my head, feeling vibration and heat, plus using intravenous vitamin C therapy and lots of various vitamins and supplements plus diet changes, the last MRI showed a shrinkage of the tumor. some of my hearing has also returned. Jeff, the word that keeps coming to mind is “courageous.”  Much has been going on in the lives of our Valkyrie group. I know that sometimes we find it hard to bear the pain and go through these heartbreaking situations, but we can thank the Lord for His Presence with us. In Romans 8:28 we read, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.” (KJV) The Lord used the word courageous when He commissioned Joshua to lead the Israelites following the death of Moses. “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you… Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9 (NIV) The call for courage, then and now, is not for human courage but for a courageous faith centered in God and His Word. The Lord was telling Joshua and He is telling us to remain strong and stay in the Word! Jesus understands about any difficulties and suffering that we may be going through. He understands our pain and doesn’t watch with detachment, but comes right along-side of us with His comfort and love. Jesus understands suffering, because He went all the way to the cross to die for our sins.
My wife and I are praying for you.

God bless,
Bob

Thought I'd add a note. Back in 2016 I asked this board for prayer for my sister who was battling brain cancer. She had all the best medicine that was available, but lost the battle a few months later.
She and her husband had done many short holiday trips, but had always wanted to do longer, further-away trips. They just never got around to it.

The thing that was said at her 'celebration of life' was 'Do The Things You Really Want To Do Now', because you just don't know what could happen.

I'm not letting this get me down.  Life goes on. Just another adventure. I am staying off the bikes until I know I'm not a bleeding risk.  That's about the only change.

Jeff, you may remember me reporting my mom got a heart valve replacement, and in a week was up driving around normal.  But the blood thinners they MUST give with any heart surgery allowed a brain capillary bleed which caused her to have a big grand-mal seizure, and stroke-like event and symptoms (which very likely would have killed an 87yo who was not in as good of shape as mom was).

Now she had stumbled and hit her head (not a huge hit, but a whack) a week or so earlier, but it is unknown what if any contribution that might have made.  It took her some two months to rehab out of her stroke-like symptoms (one sided weakness), but she has now regained most of her function (except continuing dizziness that is probably more medication related than brain bleed related).  She would not have recovered from a real stroke so quickly or well.

So don't be hitting your head.

Also (my brother and I, and mom), discussed this in some detail.  We decided to do nothing that would result in DMV yanking her driver's license (and no talking or even raising the issue with the medical folks about it either) (if they have some duty to report certain cases we could not find out, but don't remind them about it) (if they ask, say you are not driving at all).  She refrained from driving at all (and my brother took her everywhere), until she had returned to pretty good shape.  My mom is a good and safe driver who had one moving violation in her entire life (on her Harley 125 Rapido, 40 years ago).  LOL

It's always better to restrain yourself, than have the G do it for you.  And if you get on some kind of DMV list, I suppose it could be tough (maybe impossible) to get off it.

don't listen to the doctors too much.

In 2010, the Office of Inspector General for Health and Human Services said that bad hospital care contributed to the deaths of 180,000 patients in Medicare alone in a given year.

Now comes a study in the current issue of the Journal of Patient Safety that says the numbers may be much higher 2014 between 210,000 and 440,000 patients each year who go to the hospital for care suffer some type of preventable harm that contributes to their death, the study says.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-many-die-from-medical-mistakes-in-us-hospitals/

they wanted to do radiation, gamma knife for my tumor. I said no way. too many documented cases of the tumor growing larger or becoming malignant. I personally know someone who had a tumor like mine over 20 yrs ago. they did the gamma knife, the tumor started growing larger, so they had to operate to remove it. told him 50/50 chance becoming paralyzed. he's been in a wheel chair ever since. this guy was an olympic level shot putter, before this happened. where I get my intravenous therapy, there is a woman who had the same tumor. she did the gamma knife, which almost removed the tumor completely. well two yrs later she now has cancer in another part of her body from the radiation.

read www.drday.com for more info if interested.
