Dear friends

Searching on CL, I found a lien sale valkyrie (price 1.5K, standard 1999 with 11K miles, missing some parts).

I wonder if that is too risky to buy it? I got no experience at all with lien sale vehicles and would rather avoid the situation of having a bike that won't be possible to ever register.

The bike:

Any opinions?

Best regards

Looks like a good deal if it's legit...

Call the seller and get the VIN, then from Britman's post, call the DMV and ask 'em if it all checks out:

If the vehicle's value is $4,000 or less, the registered and legal owners of record will be notified by the party conducting the lien. If the vehicle's value is greater than $4,000, DMV notifies all interested parties. You can call (916)–657–7617 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. if you have questions regarding lien sales.

And if all good, go for it!

What worries me also is the fact that the title status is described as 'parts only'.

Does it mean the bike can no longer be used as a registered vehicle?

Off the top of my gourd give Bob-attic rat-a call bout the title wording. He just MIGHT have some insight on this issue for you. And as a heads up-when you do in FACT git hold of Bob be warned there is NO such thing as a 5 minute phone call with Bob!  Roll Eyes I just KNOW Ima gonna pay fer dat!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Even if it is just a parts bike.

Talk the guy down to $1200, keep the parts that you want and sell the rest.

I guess in worst case (parts bike), I can get it and sell the parts to anyone that might be interested in the forum.

I'm really into trying to rescue this bike really (and bring it back to the road).

OK, I just called the guy.

It seems the frame was replaced, but he claims to have the receipt for the new frame. The bike is not in a ride-able state and the registration is not current.

I'm planning to check the bike this weekend and see how it goes.

That's concerning, the CL ad says specifically "It is rideable. "

Just a small red flag when the ad and the phone call don't match...

That's what it looks like when the seller deletes an ad.

I do that every time I sell an item on Craigslist so as to not get more emails.

Pursue it. Go with a couple of big friends.
For the price of a lunch at least, it could be good. Be prepared to exit quick.
