My alternator o-ring has been leaking for a while. Nothing major, but enough to put a drop on the exhaust every hour or so and remind me with the wafting aroma of burning oil. I've been dreading it and putting it off. Well, today was my day off so I was kind of shamed into quit delaying it. Maybe only the ujoint boot is more dreaded by me than the alternator. I have spent anywhere from 4 hours to all day on it before. So....today was my personal best. Hour and a half, also replaced the drive bumpers which had become hard and brittle. Maybe Special Olympics record would be appropriate .

Cool, maybe get yourself a truck and trailer and give BigBF some competition? Or maybe not

Cool, maybe get yourself a truck and trailer and give BigBF some competition? Or maybe not Probably not. Sadly, the next time will probably be back to my all day time. I also put some insulating tape on the backside of a new alt. cover. We will see if it helps. Down to one more new one.

Rob, Congrats! You named two of those seemingly simple, yet so confounding, tasks to be performed on a Valk that bedevil every 'wrench' I know! From what I've observed, it appears to me the secret to efficient success is in holding ones face in just the correct expression... Something midway between anticipation and after-glow... Appears you've stumbled upon that secret... I wish you luck in remembering it!!! DDT

Of course, that could be because it's so common and just a coincidence.

Not that this is some science or anything, but I've found it's not so much straining to pass gas, as it is pivoting over on one cheek to break the butt seal to allow the gas to escape. Sometimes riding the bike, people think you are using body english to help steer the bike, when in reality you are just allowing gas a free passage to the atmosphere.

HAHAHA I did that and aired out my daughter at 75 mph. I have never strained. I find that to have undesirable results.

You do have to have confidence in the proper function of your vapor separator. Malfunctions can result in a sticky situation.

This puts me in mind of a story about an old lady who had just moved to an assisted living center. Her son arrived later in the morning, and saw her sitting in a small group being provided an introduction briefing. She began slowly leaning left, and a white-coat reached out and straightened her up (so as not to fall). A few minutes later, she began leaning right, and the same attendant straightened her up again.
After the briefing, he went over to her and asked how she was doing.
I'm doing OK son..... but the sons a bitches won't let me fart.
