A California  coffee shop doubled down on its refusal to serve police officers, claiming cops threaten their “physical and emotional safety.”

“We know in our experience working on campaigns against police brutality that we are not alone saying that police presence compromises our feelings of physical & emotional safety,” Hasta Muerte Coffee posted on its Instagram page. “The facts are that poc [people of color], women and queer police are complicit in upholding the same law and order that routinely criminalizes and terrorizes black and brown and poor folks, especially youth, trans and houseless folks. For these reasons and so many more, we need the support of the actual community to keep this place safe, not police.”

The case is similar to a Seattle-based gay coffee shop owner who kicked out a group of Christians from his shop in October 2016, after declaring he would “f*ck Christ in the ass.”

The owner heatedly told the Christians to leave his shop immediately in a video Abolish Human Abortion, Christian group seeking to end the practice of abortion, posted to Facebook.

“I’m gay; you have to leave,” the owner said in a video of the incident. “This is offensive to me. I own the place. I have the right to be offended.”

Next time they get an armed robbery call from that place, they should respond... sometime next month.

Someone tell me how a Christian baker who refuses to bake a cake for a gay couple gets sued but this POS in Seattle can refuse to serve Christians and it's OK?  The hypocrisy of the left never ceases to amaze me.

BUTBUTBUTBUT "they" put the Christian baker who refused to bake a cake for a lgbt "couple" out of business Because of their Christian beliefs.  Lips Sealed Wonder HOW the Christians would do suing the owners of that place? As to the NOT serving L E Os how long and how loud would the owner be pitchin a bitch if the L E Os took their time responding to an emergency call to his establishment?  uglystupid2 Better yet if he do have an emergency let him handle it his own self and take his chances in court!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

and it has been proven that the lgbt couple drove over 100 miles bypassing many other bakers all which were closer to their event to get to the Christian Baker.

Cops need to print business cards with the address and directions to the coffee shop and hand them out at, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, crack houses, every one being released from the city and county jails, every one being released after a 72 hour wellness hold, to every youth with a whit t-shirt , red/ blue bandanna...................... then red line that address.

I like how you think.   cooldude

They probably need fire, health and restaurant inspections too.

You know, back in the day, most short order restaurants and diners considered it a feather in their cap to get regular cop lunch and coffee trade.  It cut down on the riff raff and thugs.  It also tended to show that good food could be had there.

Refusing cops service is just the worst kind of behavior.  Maybe in Oakland, it will get them GOOD press.

I've heard about the baker. Wasn't this resolved in court?  If so I have no idea of the ruling.  The coffee shop owner didn't deny service because the patrons were Christians but because they were a radical anti abortion group demonstrating outside his shop displaying graphic anti-abortion posters and equating being gay as somehow encouraging and supporting abortion.  Doesn't anyone bother to look up additional information when right wing tabloids publish this crap?  They only want you to read their rags to make money by choosing clickbait on their sites.  The more sensational the story the more money they make.

Great minds think alike. Back in my 30's when I had a quicker temper, thinner skin, and the ability to get out of bed without saying, "ouch", I was disrespected at a slightly upscale tavern. I was persuaded by my buddies not to make a scene, but I did have some fun after I calmed down. I went up to a different bartender and explained it was my turn for a round, but I suspected a few of my fellow riders had had enough already, so can I just get 12/13 whatever drink chips? They were overjoyed to hear we wanted to spend extra money, and most good bar owners know a certain % of chips carried out never come back=free money. Guaranteed MINE came back, I stopped off at a local clubhouse on the way back home and them to the Sgt. at Arms when asked what I wanted. I explained that the owner of the place hated bikes and wouldn't serve me.

I disagree with the cops doing anything in the way of a work slowdown or ignoring any calls that come in because that would just bring shade on themselves. I do think if they took up a collection and had a civilian try an buy a bunch of $5 gift cards it could be interesting. If they are refused service after promising they aren't a LEO they probably can file a butthurt suit. If they DO get a handful of cards, I'm sure a swing buy the closest shelter or similar would find grateful recipients, especially on a rainy day where folks are looking for a nice dry place to relax. Or perhaps a local clubhouse...

temporary police emergency no parking signs need to go up all around the place. then sit back and write tickets if anybody does park in the no park zone. customers will go else where.

My understanding is that the case has been presented to the U.S. Supreme Court but they have not yet ruled.  The Colorado court had ruled against the bakery.

The quotes in the post are present in the story in the Washington Times.  Do you consider the Washington Times a right wing tabloid?  It appears you do not bother to do nearly the research that you insist others should do.

You know I do NOT want to be served by someone who does not want my business and I really do not care the reason.

I hope they can understand I will also try to help by telling everyone to stay away.

Seems fair to me.

I also think anyone who has a private business, should be able to refuse service, for any reason.

Just as I can refuse to do business with them.

Thanks for The confirmation  The WT was once a powerful conservative voice. Nothing wrong with that.  I'm conservative compared to the far left.  WT former reporters say since its purchase by Rupert Murdock it has gone to the extreme right. I can believe that since they chose to print such clear  sensationalism. Just the name Rupert Murdock should be enough to keep you from taking anything in the paper as factual. Mr. Murdock has made billions pandering his tabloids to gullible people. These people know how to pander to their audience to keep them outraged, angry and coming back for more indoctrination.  Real news has nothing to do with why they're in business.

Kind of sucks that the gays can throw out and yell at the Christians but the Christians get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and loose their business. If the ruling that says they are a business and have to serve everyone then why does the business get away at not serving the cops?

https://firstliberty.org/cases/kleins/#simple1

First Liberty Institute is representing Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of “Sweet Cakes by Melissa,” in a battle for the Oregon couple’s religious freedom. As devout Christians, the Kleins hold to a biblical definition of marriage. Because of their religious convictions, they declined to design and create a custom cake to celebrate a same-sex marriage, only to have the State of Oregon punish them with a $135,000 penalty. The Kleins were forced to shut down their bakery. First Liberty Institute and Boyden Gray (former White House Counsel for George H.W. Bush) represent the Kleins as they appeal the State of Oregon's actions to the Oregon Supreme Court.

Really?  Really?  So you fellows stand for it's alright to discriminate (Even when the law forbids it) if the group is one that you can personally find offensive.

BTW, I disagree with what is the most important quote.  That reference to wanting to stick his equipment into Jesus' anus pretty well negates the implication of his friendliness for Christians.

I can only speak for myself. But yes, if I owned a business I would not serve people who promote hate. I'm not familiar with the laws you are referencing. The only illegal discrimination I'm aware of is for age, race, religion, sexual preferences.

If I owned a business I would want to refuse service to anyone who wants to kill babies or anyone who voted differently than did I in the Presidential election.  Are you up with that?

Where did you find that law on sexual preference?  That would have to be at some state level because it doesn't exist in federal law.   Wink

Well he has the same freedom to say what he wants as you and I, or Tabloids for that matter.   The issue is sensationalistic one sided BS designed to anger and appeal to emotion versus actual news coverage which HuffPo did.  If the quote upset you at least it presented the complete story. The quote didn't bother me nearly as much as this poster the group was displaying.

My point wasn't that he hasn't the right to say stupid things.  My point is that what he says contradicts what he says elsewhere.

The graphic is disturbing.  It's meant to be.  Pro-abortion supporters should be aware of what they are supporting.

You attributed certain quotes to sensational right tabloids.  I pointed out that they were reported else where.  You haven't the ability to admit when you've been wrong.  That says something loudly to me.  We are operating on two completely different levels of logic.  Further communication serves no purpose and I do need to withdraw due to my commitment to the Rules of the Road.  we will part knowing that we see the world through different lenses.  I'm pleased with my values.

I have a friend who is a cop and work in Oakland.

I think is wrong to deny service to police officers for many reasons (they serve the public!) as also for basic decency (i.e. everyone deserves to have coffee).
:-)

That is not different from denying service to someone because they somehow offend you (i.e. so called Christians denying service to gay people).

I guess there is lot of bigotry and intolerance in both sides in this days.

I hope we (as a country) can do better.

I would not piss on the owner of that donut shop if he was on fire

But I can be cold,  once I went to a wake just to be sure the SOB was really dead.
