I recently bought a 03 Valk, previous owner wrapped the exhaust pipes. Is there any advantage to this or should I just remove it? Looks like crap to be honest.

It is a gimmick.....unless you have a high horsepower race bike.

Agreed.  Except you won't have the full story until after you take it off.

Could be the chrome was flaking off, and he just covered it up. The wrap will make it go faster, though, so it may be uglier underneath.

yeah most do it for looks, or in the case of my other bike (a v-twin), to prevent leg burns on the headers.  most likely you'll find ugly header pipes underneath and you'll want to either replace, paint or re-wrap them.  exhaust wrapping is not hard to do, or expensive, though if you go that route you'll want to paint the wraps with the special high-heat paint to prevent fraying.  here's my other bike's exhaust wrap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLfuH-vIaX4

Bike sounds good, but you need to check it. I believe you've got a bunch of spark plug wires off! :D

No joke it's only half a Valkyrie if that

wrap about fell off once I got started. Going to have to paint the headers. Just TOO much discoloration and surface rust. RATS

Okay well the word is you have to take great care removing the exhaust nuts because you can break the studs. Do a search for posts that discuss it because you got to prepare those exhaust studs before attempting to remove them
