Should be a great series. Thought I'd check on tickets. $400-$500 each. I guess I'll have to watch on the tube.

Nashville chokes big time in the series, losing 3 of 4 in their barn.  Rinne two goals on first two shots, both stinkers.  Jets shut them off in the neutral zone tonight and the Preds skating game never got going.
Glad to see the Jets win the series with the addition of Paul Stastny at the trade deadline; I always thought that Colorado let him go for nothing (free agency a few years back) when he had more to give down the line.  Like to see the kid win a Cup and finally get the family name on the chalice.

Winnipeg-Tampa Bay finals is OK with me.

I don't know if I'd say the Preds choked. Tonight was the first I'd seen of the Jets goalie Hellebuyck (sp.) I thought he was pretty cursed good. I wouldn't buy tickets to Jets-Lightning quite yet. LV is a pretty good team.  :cooldude:

Best seasonal record in the league, home ice advantage for all their series, goaltender vying for the Vezina, roll two fearsome lines and a shutdown fourth line, deep defensively.  In spite of all this, they lost three games in front of their hometown fans?

Oh yes, they choked big time on the catfish, sir, big time.  And this goes back for several years.
Some teams have all the pieces and still lose out, Nashville did it this year, their locker room interviews have them shaking their heads.

Don't count VGK out.  They are as quick as the Jets, if not more so.  I think it will come down to the goalie play.  And they priced me out as well.

Still think the Bolts win that series.  They looked out of sorts tonight and I just don't see that lasting very long.

Hoping for VGK-Caps series, but that's a longshot.

Vegas reminds me of a bunch of feral cats or junkyard dogs that were cast off and now they have come together to prove that it was wrong to give up on them. They do come at you every shift, and fast. Goaltenders.  Fleury is the Las Vegas key to their whole series and he is playing like he was about 6-7 years ago for the Penguins, very focused. They could ride him to the finals, I believe, if he stays hot against Winnipeg.  I'll root for the Jets, but not without giving Las Vegas their due respect.

I guess it's how we define the term "choked". To me it implies the pressure got to them and they didn't perform up to their abilities. It seemed to me the Predators were just tired, slow, unaggresive.

Winnipeg took Nashville out of their standard game plan by staying up on them defensively and not give them the middle zone (they did it to Las Vegas last night); Hellebucyk took care of the rest.
Nashville could not manhandle the Jets as they were a bit bigger and just as quick as they were.  "Big Buff" at 6'5" and 255-260 is a massive man to get by and if you do, then he's behind you?  Woof.
The series went seven and as a hockey fan, I was pleased that it did.

The Jets do a great job of clogging up neutral ice.  They also do a great job of cutting off the cross ice pass in the slot area.  It will be hard to beat Hellebuyck often enough to win a series if you can't get those passes thru.  That said, Fleury looked like he had been resting for a while.  Real rusty in the first 10 minutes.  Once he settled down, they played about even.  And you're right, 6.5, 255 is a huge hockey player.  Wouldn't want to meet him in the corner.

I'm from the era when Tim Horton was a giant of a defenseman, Larry Robinson, Moose DuPont, Barry Beck...big men...big hitters when they got ya lined up. Who am I missing?  "Buf" is in another column for just plain wide, like a slice of Jersey barrier.  He can make you part of the corner.  I didn't like the guy a few years back, but he's just a little less meaner (ya know like how a bull gets less mean with age) and is a smarter defenseman nowadays.  Learning the position.
Agree with your observations about Fleury and Hellebuyck on their game play.

I haven't been paying much attention since the end of the first round but ...... I said Pittsburgh would do it again while they were lifting the cup last year ...... their built for it! Well, they are gone as we all know and as much as I'd like to see Winnipeg seal the deal ....... I gotta go with Washington ...... it's time.

Yup, fairly matched game with both teams firing away and getting goals right off of opening-the-period faceoffs.  I think this may go 7.  I wonder what scalpers are getting in Las Vegas for the cheap seats?

I guess if you roll that 7-11 downstairs at the right time, it just may pick up a couple of those babies...or you get to watch it in the lounge with a beer if it comes up craps. :D

Additionally: Las Vegas looked quite strong on the forecheck last night and deserved the win; Winnipeg looked very tired in the second half of the third period, both physically and mentally.  Fleury looking big when he needs to, but the team in front of him is helping tremendously.
Las Vegas in the Cup final?  Looking more likely that 500 to 1 odds at the beginning of the season has a chance for some big payoffs for the home team.

This town is already nuts about VGK.  Bringing the cup home might bring the house down.  What a great story.

And youre right.  Fleury is the reason.

Game 7 Wednesday, Caps vs Bolts.  Tossup, but I'll lean towards Washington. :-\

Tampa Bay never in the game tonight as Washington never let them in it with fierce defense in all three zones.  Capitals took advantage and scored what they needed to win.  I only counted five serious scoring chances by Tampa Bay throughout the whole game.  Stamkos a non-factor in the series; I don't believe that he is not nearly the player he was after some serious injuries over the past three years.

So, it's Las Vegas vs. Washington for the Cup and I don't know who will win, nor do I have leanings in one direction or the other.  Fleury has three rings and Ovechkin none; I guess that he deserves one even though I have not been a big fan of his over the years (do appreciate his scoring skills), but Fleury is playing well enough to lead the "mongrels" in an unprecedented NHL accomplishment.

Let's see, eh?
