I missed a gear on The Devil's Triangle on a switchback a couple weeks ago went from 2nd to N right in the turn  in a heartbeat my bike just stopped so glad my ridin' bud Larry had his game on that could have turned ugly he was right behind me. He posted a video on FB

My new driveway is FIRST GEAR all the way.

I think a down shift on it would lead to a stop and then a front brake and then a locked wheel sliding downhill.

Long time ago I was lead of a small group on a back road in W VA or VA.

Following an SUV that was driving slowly through some tight uphill turns. Plenty of room between me and the SUV.

In a very tight switchback the driver came to a dead stop in the middle of the road.

If I had stopped my footing would have been f'ed up and I reckon I would have dropped the ST1300.

I was able to squeeze by and received a glowering look from the fat, spectacle wearing female in the driver seat.

The rest of the group just stayed behind her and I waited down the road until they appeared. The hag in the SUV had turned off somewhere. I can only guess she was fed up with bikes being on "her" road.

The video doesn't show what happened to the first rider to leave the road (because he was behind the other rider, I'll call him rider 2).  My guess it that they were riding in staggered formation and rider 2 was following too close, and as rider 1 either slowed or drifted tighter into the corner, rider 2 was left with nowhere to go except off the inside shoulder.  Then rider 1 instantly got stupider and rode off the road while staring at rider 2.

The 2nd rider down looked like a classic case of "bike follows eyes" to me. A healthy dose of throttle might have saved both of them but that's not an instinctive move, it's a learned one.

Those things are going to be a bitch to get upright and out - I'd guess a tow truck was required.  Notice also that one of the cars that stopped was spinning tires to get moving so the traction of that curve itself is suspect.  Looks like a turn you enter at the correct speed and don't try speeding up while in the turn.

Looks like a patch of sand/gravel in their riding lane, about halfway through the turn and not visible until you're on top of it. The front wheel would be turned right slightly into the turn when it slips on the loose stuff, causing it to turn even more to the right, making you flip into the ditch. It's a tight right turn so you're already leaning into it, going slow so not tending to highside. Result, you go where the bike is pointing. The second guy, he's his own enemy this time, caused his own accident by not paying attention to the road.

Just my take on the accident in general, but one needs to keep in mind when entering a blind curve....sharp or not, you don't remain blind to the possibilities of what might lay ahead.

and then the two bikes behind them wait until they're around a corner and out of sight to the far inside before parking the bikes. Guess they were jealous of all the attention and wanted to try and get hit from behind by another vehicle.

Watched this a number of times. Absolutely no excuse for the second bike to go over. Not real sure why on the first one. I'm sure lack of skill would be one of the reasons.

No, it's just that we don't see what happened in to the corner. Could be a number of things. But that second rider clearly wasn't looking at the road.

IMO,  going to slow and hugging the right side way too closely.

when in doubt, stay in the middle of the road to have wiggle room either side of your road.
