I hope I'm not too off-topic. I own a 1997 Bumblebee that I bought new, so I've been part of the Valkyrie scene since the beginning. My Valk hasn't run much since 2011 (maybe 5,000 miles) due to medical problems resulting in blindness. But the doctors (God bless them) restored usable sight to one eye and I'm riding again. My Valkyrie needs a lot of deferred maintenance that I'm now getting to. Major tasks include a carb rebuild, replacing every liquid in the bike, cleaning brake calipers and installing preventative measures to avoid hydro-lock.

I just wanted to say that I'm delighted to find this forum as active as back in 1999 and the info is more useful than ever as our bikes age. And people here are still polite. Most of the Internet in recent years is so rude I won't even log in, no less ask a question. (I'm looking at you Reddit.) So thanks again and here's to another 21 years of Valkyrie riding.

@SPOFF, congrats on regaining your eyesight. I have a good friend with good eyesight in one eye and he rides his Harley Street Glide like he stole it. According to him, it does take a bit of getting used to so go slow at first. Your peripheral vision is what suffers...so (for example) that deer on the left might not be visible as quickly if your left eye is blind. He also mentioned it taking awhile to regain his balance on the bike. Ask away if you have any maintenance questions. Many old timers are still here and know more than ever. Some of the newbies ain't bad either. :) Good luck!

As a newbie I have only been around a fee months but glad to hear you have regained sight and ability to ride!  Be extra careful out there!  1

I just started in December and I have gotten amazing help here.   I just hope there is something I will be able to contribute.

Thanks all. My right eye has deteriorated due to glaucoma and macular degeneration to where I see shadows only. The left eye is nearly 20:20 (corrected) in bright sunlight, but I avoid riding at night. My biggest restriction is I need to avoid left turns. And I stop, look, and listen at every intersection.

I recognize some of the names here from the early days. Back then we talked about chrome and billet. Today the conversation is more on keeping these bikes going. I plan on a comprehensive tear down to allow detail cleaning along with the deferred maintenance. I'm actually quite excited since the other two bikes are good for the season.

Glad you can see and are trying and not sitting. Besides , seeing eye dogs cant run as fast as a Valk. :2funny: :2funny: I wish I was closer as I would like to lend a hand. There will be others that will help if you ask ( or don't).
