Have a great time up there.

Serk

Wow... That cutie is kin to you???

Have a good trip, jealous of that trip, even if you're cheating on the mode of transportation to get there...

Thanks guys  :cooldude: she's a handful. So far, so good. No meltdowns. I'm hoping she sleeps on the next leg. She just devoured a McFlurry, so it's doubtful.  :)

Great memories being made there! Happy for you and your family... Have a safe and fun time (and try not to work too hard!)... We're looking forward to updates about the goings on... If you need any bail money, just let Willow know... he's in charge of that... I ought to know, I appointed him.   8)  Mmmm, there is a slight chance I may have forgotten to notify him, though...

;D no bail needed yet. Went down to the beach to visit my nephew this morning and saw an eagle stealing a fish carcass.

First day of fishing for me. They had an opener before I got here.

It looks to me like it was stealing something else one would find at a beach on a hot day.  :o

"Ain't No Nookie Like Chinookie".  A favorite t-shirt from a memorable trip years back to Wrangell-St.Elias, jumped off from McCarthy in a Pilatus Porter piloted by Gary Green.
Great time of the year up in that magnificent land; enjoy some of it for us stuck back in the insufferable high desert heat adjoining Utah, no real relief in sight.  Let me guess...nightimes about 40*?   Nice. :coolsmiley:

Nice fish dude :cooldude:
Thanks, Bill  :cooldude: I can't take any credit though. We caught it in a gill net fishing for Sockeyes.

Nice. Looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks, Beardo. It is a lot of fun, but they kicked my ass today. This is a young mans game, pulling in nets with hundreds of pounds of fish is tough on an old man. I got aches over body parts I didn't even know I had today.

I don't have a pic online that I can post. But, I've caught 65 lb'rs and had what would have probably been a 80-85 lb'er break the net and get away. The one in the pic was 40-50 lbs.

They must grow them big up there just like their pumpkins.  Back in the late 60s and 70s and 80s my Father and myself caught many from 25 to 35 lbs out of Lake Michigan trolling with downriggers, but nothing like this.  I see the Michigan record for the Kings is only 45 lbs.   I always thought the smaller Coho were better tasting but I love any Salmon.

Nice.

Took the family to Seward today. 5 minutes into the trip we have 2 caribou ambling down the middle of the hiway. Get to Seward just as one of the charter boats is taking pictures and weighing. 275 for the big guy. Biggest one I've ever seen in person.

Rob,

Alaskan pan-fish, huh... Catch those on a flyrod?

They have cut back the fish openings to almost nothing. So, I've been finding other stuff to do.

This seems like a much harder way to catch fish.  (Even with the plausible deniability to the game wardens)

Very sporting of you.   ;D :cooldude:

Now driving a bucket of Titlists into a crowd of Grizzlies feeding on the shoreline would seem like good fun.  The tennis shoes are really thinking ahead.

I missed it last year, couldn't let that happen again.

I had a couple free days. The women were scared of the bus ride in Denali, so only real men got to go. I made them go full on Alaskan and sit by the creek while I ordered. The place hasn't changed in 30 years. But my Mom told me the owner died a couple weeks ago. So, we'll see. McKinley was bust. First time y50 years. Weather was socked in, only saw moose, Fox, Dall Sheep.

Rob,
Looks like a very enjoyable trip for sure.  Thanks for making the effort to share the photos with the rest of us.

Hi to Brenda,

Turns out not what or where,
but who you ride with really matters

Halibut fishing is on my bucket list.

Nice pics, looks like an awesome trip of a lifetime.. :cooldude:

Work beckons  :tickedoff: It's been a great summer. 2 weeks of riding to Virginia and DC, and 3 weeks back home in AK. Brenda and I are edging our way towards being Snowbirds. We bought an acre of land while up there and hope to drive our motorhome up next summer and leave it. Eventually build a garage and leave my Standard up there.

Rob,

None of that surprises me at all!!! One step at a time, my friend... Of course you know that, and your plan speaks of much thought and preparation for a special time of life!!! Now, if there is an available yurt anywhere around, I just may have to haul-off and come for another visit, myself... I do owe you a beer or ten, after all, and I do like to pay all debts!!! Thanks for sharing your adventure... it's been fun to tag along!

Bruce, you are welcome wherever we may be. Yurt or yurtless  :cooldude:

Rob,

Sounds good to me... I am rather fond of that neck of the woods, ya know! And, if not for you being up there, I'd never have learned of the wonders of yurt dwelling! Wonder if maybe Connie, et al, have considered The Kenai as a possible IZ destination...? Nah, probably somebody would complain about the distance... which, I admit is rather considerable!!!
