Kuryakin chrome spark plug covers

Need some input. I have a 2001 Interstate and want to install the above subject. Kuryakin tells me they will not fit. Another on-line retailer tells me that they will fit, that all I have to do is remove the radiator pod, install rhe covers, and replace the pod. Has anyone done this? Were there any problems or difficulties I should be aware of?  Any advice? Thanks in advance for your help.

My old rememberer tells me that Smokinjoe did something to make them fit. Maybe a bit of cutting was involved.

The Kuryakyn shortened Interstate spark plug runners have been out of production for years.

The std/tourer ones will work on an Interstate just fine.  You probably don't have to take the pods off, but may have to loosen them up a little.  

They have to be removed to change plugs, so if my plugs were years old, I'd do them before the runners.  NGK/NipponDenso plugs are cheap (and all you need).

I get the impression the Std/Tour version will differently than the previous version designed for the I/S.  If this is the case, can anyone describe how that might be?

Basically they are cut short between the first and second cylinders on each side.

They are identical parts, except the interstate ones were trimmed off short of the pods.

But the std/tourer ones will fit under the pods (though you may need to loosen the pods up to slide them under).
