new california gov, piece of work

The forest does appear to be mismanaged but I am no expert.  However that is not just a California issue.  Federal and private lands make up a huge percentage of burned areas.  I am near Redding and the Carf fire started on land managed by the feds and spread to private property and the city of Redding.   Looks like a national and state management issue.

And in further news of just how lost California is, it doesn't have a First Lady..... because of gender neutral sensitivities, it has a "First Partner" instead...

http://www.news9.com/story/39752598/california-governors-wife-to-go-by-first-partner-in-effort-to-advance-gender-equality

At the Inauguration of our new gov Polis today they referred to his "partner" - who was behind ballistic glass - as the "first gentleman".  EVERY news report gushed he is the FIRST "openly gay" gov in US history. Polis wore blue track shoes with formal attire to his inaugural ball.  An extreme liberal agenda is anticipated.

Finally, suggesting to drop diesel/gas in the wildfires is pretty shitty, doesn't work even as a bad joke.
...

I too found the remark highly offensive.  If someone had bothered to report the post I would've removed it and any discussion of it.

Almost as bad as the suggestion to put minefields along the border. I believe that is still out there...

I can delete it if that's what you wish. I've been unresponsive to try and avoid the thread being locked, or escalating.

California has a real problem with forest mismanagement.  However federal lands are managed just as poorly as state forests.  Here are just a few examples of how serious the problem is:

  • In 1981 there were 149 saw mills in California.  Today only 27 remain.
  • Timber sales on federal lands have dropped by 80% since the 1970s.
  • Trees are so dense in many forests that snow accumulates as a canopy on top of the trees.  This results in much of the water content evaporating before reaching the ground.

A forester here in Colorado told me that 'trees are a crop'.  They're going to come out of the forest one way or another.  We'll either carry them out, they'll succumb to disease, or they'll burn.

Almost as bad as the suggestion to put minefields along the border. I believe that is still out there...

Surely you can discern the difference between an offensive attack on innocent people and a defensive barrier designed to keep criminals out, right? I refuse to believe you can't tell the difference in the two concepts.

Mining the southern border would, in the long term, be a very humane thing to do, saving many lives, both US Citizens and the lives of the illegal invaders, who die by the hundreds currently trying to cross, and would be dissuaded from making such a risky venture with a minefield in place.

But I know you will believe what you choose to believe, and my words will be ignored at best, twisted into something I didn't say at worst...

Almost as bad?  You continue to put an exclamation point on my opinion.

The point was that though offended no one had bothered to eport the post.

Come to think of it, you, too, continue to complain about what you didn't bother to report.

I think Serk is right.  The remark wasn't made as a suggestion on how to kill illegal immigrants, but as a low cost alternative barrier to a wall.  I can listen to a persons ideas with out being offended by them even if I disagree with them.  Some cannot.  Good luck with that first partner thing, although I guess what else can you call them?

I rather not delete it, as I'm a true believer of free speech. Most of other countries don't have a first amendment (or a second) and I truly believe is one of the best things in USA.

Instead, do an exercise: read it loud and ask yourself if the statement is fair or if it makes any sense to hate a whole State so much.

And if you ever visit the SF Bay Area, please let me know and we can share a beer and hopefully help you change a bit the opinion of California and the people who lives here.

Any federal tax dollars should be stopped To either of those states.
California receives $.97 back for every dollar it sends in taxes to the Federal Government.
New York receives back $.84 for every dollar.
Alabama receives back $3.25 for every dollar.

Looks like your state needs the support from them. Might want to reconsider your idea.

Why is California getting anything from the Federal Government?? One of the campaign promises Trump needs to stick to is no federal monies to states that provide sanctuary to illegals. I'm sure if we just cut off California there would be more then enough savings to build one hell of a wall.

I live in California and the politics and taxation really piss me off.  So do the dickheads making statements about filling firefighting planes with diesel.

I'm with you. After seeing the pain, heartache, and death of these last fires how anyone can say something as asinine as to burn more homes and people is beyond the pale.

Well how about them putting some common sense environmental rules in place that allow clearing underbrush and allowing controlled burns so if there is a wildfire, it might not spread and they can control it faster. Along with not building and re-building in the fire prone areas. Sorta like building on a river and crying when it floods your house. Building in an area that gets wildfires every few years and crying when your house burns up.

Why would you report the post because it "offends" you? Unlike Liberal Idiots, the other side believes in free speech, if something offends us, who cares, we suck it up and move on. Why do the Liberal folks always go crying to someone that the mean person needs to have his free speech censored because it hurt your feelings. Grow a pair.
