Front wheels

Trying to install a wheel with a good tire and rotors and bearings on the 97 Tourer ,the brake caliper will not go in the space, I do not recall if there was a difference in width on the front wheel/rotors assembly between the years , or is the jig is not square .  lol
Trying to get inspection, took the front tire for granted until the guy tells me no ,that front tire is gone! Metzlers should last longer than that! Anyhow a wheel with a great Avon is sitting in the garage waiting for an opportunity to roll.

I have a 97, and I know the bearing in it is different than other years,
but I'm pretty sure the wheels are interchangeable. A common "rotor problem"
is when people don't get the non-threaded end of the axle all the way in flush
with the fork leg...

I tap my axle with a rubber mallet to drive it in all the way.

97 wheels use the same brake rotor as later models. Make sure that the left end (as sitting on the bike) is absolutely flush with the most left part of the forks. It might be easier to remove the calipers, install the wheel and then reinstall the calipers. You might have to spread the brake pads slightly to go over the rotor.

 The wheel was installed per shop  manual instructions (this time) left pinch bolts,  axle nut to torque specs, the caliper was hanging (right side) as it was cleaned and scrubbed to make sure dirt does not get in as the pistons are pushed back. Springs are in place. the only thing was the wheel was very under-inflated. I will further investigate tonight.

I always remove the calipers when removing/installing the front wheel.

I wish I read this sooner. I was in Houston for a couple days. Oh well.  Are you saying you got new rotors?  If so, are they OE?  If they are OE they are the same for all Valkyries.  Remove both calipers install the wheel. Spread the pads a bit with a large screwdriver, then slide the caliper onto the disk and rotate into place.

BTW... Houston has to be the worst city in the country to drive in.  I almost lost my mind!

CJ, it is a complete wheel and tire with rotors ,from the Bay.
We all should advertise our trips more often so as to meet other Valkers.
Looking back and knowing that there is not differences between the wheels ; the main problem is that it was late and dark .
